Priority 8: Strengthen<strong>in</strong>g community<br />
engagement and resilience<br />
Approach:<br />
• Ensure that the new s<strong>in</strong>gle police and<br />
fire and rescue services are responsive<br />
to citizens’ needs through <strong>in</strong>creased<br />
local accountability and more effective<br />
collaboration with community plann<strong>in</strong>g<br />
partnerships.<br />
• Strengthen social networks and the<br />
opportunities <strong>for</strong> people to help each<br />
other through the “L<strong>in</strong>k Up” CashBack<br />
<strong>for</strong> Communities-funded project.<br />
This helps people to resolve problems<br />
without resort<strong>in</strong>g to the police, social<br />
work or health services.<br />
• Improve community engagement so that<br />
hate crimes and the under-report<strong>in</strong>g of<br />
crime aga<strong>in</strong>st m<strong>in</strong>ority communities is<br />
tackled more effectively.<br />
• Enhance community resilience by<br />
work<strong>in</strong>g with the voluntary sector and<br />
support<strong>in</strong>g outreach work to empower<br />
people to cope both with potential<br />
disasters such as fire or flood, and<br />
everyday challenges faced by those<br />
<strong>in</strong> need.<br />
