Priority 2: Reduc<strong>in</strong>g the damag<strong>in</strong>g<br />

impacts of drug and alcohol problems<br />

Alcohol is a significant factor <strong>in</strong> violent<br />

crime, and illegal drug use is l<strong>in</strong>ked to<br />

both acquisitive crime and organised<br />

crim<strong>in</strong>al gangs. Our approach <strong>in</strong>volves<br />

tough en<strong>for</strong>cement, coupled with personcentred<br />

recovery, so that the impacts of<br />

drug and alcohol misuse can be conta<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

and addressed.<br />

Approach:<br />

• Deliver our “Road to Recovery”<br />

drugs strategy, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

o better protection and support of<br />

children whose parents misuse<br />

substances<br />

o disruption to the supply of drugs<br />

<strong>in</strong>to communities<br />

o provid<strong>in</strong>g opportunities <strong>for</strong> people<br />

to access appropriate treatment and<br />

support <strong>for</strong> their recovery <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />

at all stages of the justice and prison<br />

systems<br />
