CONSIDERATION OF ONE-YEAR RENEWAL OF CONTRACTS WITH<br />

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM, INC. FOR BUS FILTERS AND<br />

TIFCO INDUSTRIES, INC. FOR FASTENERS AND TERMINALS<br />

I. RECOMMENDED ACTION<br />

District staff is recommending that the <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Directors</strong> authorize the General Manager<br />

to execute an amendment to the contracts with: Vehicle Maintenance Program, Inc. for bus<br />

filters; and Tifco Industries, Inc. for fasteners and terminals, to extend the contracts for an<br />

additional one-year period at the same terms, conditions and prices.<br />

II.<br />

SUMMARY OF ISSUES<br />

• At its August 15, 1997 board meeting, the <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Directors</strong> authorized the District’s<br />

participation in the Regional Transit Coordinating Council (RTCC) cooperative<br />

purchase agreements.<br />

• The RTCC Procurement Committee has established two separate contracts for bus<br />

filters, fasteners and terminals. The District is a participating agency with both <strong>of</strong><br />

these contracts.<br />

• The RTCC Procurement Committee has negotiated with both contractors for one-year<br />

contract extensions at the same terms, conditions and prices.<br />

• District staff recommends that the <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Directors</strong> authorize the General Manager<br />

to extend the contracts with Vehicle Maintenance Program, Inc. for the purchase <strong>of</strong><br />

bus air, fuel and oil filters, and Tifco Industries, Inc. for the purchase <strong>of</strong> fasteners and<br />

terminals for an additional one-year period.<br />

DISCUSSION<br />

In order to obtain the best prices by combining annual quantities from several participating<br />

transit agencies, the RTCC Procurement Committee actively participates in joint procurements<br />

for commodities that are commonly used by RTCC member agencies.<br />

On January 14, <strong>2004</strong>, Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transit District (lead agency for both<br />

contracts) exercised an option to extend both RTCC contracts for one additional year at the same<br />

terms, conditions and prices. District staff recommends that the <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Directors</strong> authorize the<br />

General Manager to execute amendments to the contracts with Vehicle Maintenance Program,
