HEADWAYS - Bus Rider's Guide: Summer Service (June 6 - September 11, 2013) 11
Accessibility Features
Santa Cruz METRO is committed to providing transportation services that can
be used by all of our customers. All buses are equipped with ramps or lifts to
serve customers who have difficulty climbing stairs or who use wheelchairs or
scooters. There are securement areas on the buses for the mobility devices
with straps to provide a safe, secure ride. If you have special needs please
notify your operator; they are trained to assist with the mandatory securement
of the mobility device. For your safety, METRO requests that you lock your
brakes while using the lift and also while the bus is in motion. For your safety
while traveling in a scooter, you may transfer to a passenger seat and have your
scooter secured by the operator.Priority seating is available for older adults and
customers with disabilities.
Kneeling Buses
METRO’s buses are equipped with a “kneeling”
capacity. This means the front entry door can be
lowered to reduce the distance you must step to
enter/exit the bus. If you have difficulty climbing the
steps simply ask the bus operator to “kneel” the bus
for you before you enter or exit the front of the bus.
Guaranteed Back-up Service
In the event of a Passenger Lift failure, the Bus Operator
will notify “Dispatch” for “Back-Up” guaranteed service.
You are entitled to the “Back-Up” service if another
bus heading to your destination will not arrive within 30
minutes. If a METRO accessible bus cannot be provided,
the Paracruz service will be utilized.
Call Stop Announcements
The Talking Bus System will announce every bus stop
(except those within 600 feet of an earlier stop). At
the request of an individual with a disability, the Bus
Operator will announce any bus stop.
One Personal Care Attendant (PCA) can ride free with
a fare-paying passenger who presents a Discount Photo
