Memorial Tribute to Dr. Frederick Stohlman 5<br />

A few months before his death, <strong>in</strong> June 1974, Fred came to Wilsede. His<br />

contributions on that occasion were memorable and he endeared hirnself to<br />

a host of new friends. The follow<strong>in</strong>g picture (Fig. 5) depicts typical scenes of<br />

that first meet<strong>in</strong>g of the now famous conferences on <strong>Modern</strong> <strong>Trends</strong> <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Leukemia</strong> Research. These photographs epitomize the spirited <strong>in</strong>tensity<br />

and the charm of the Wilsede atmosphere. The last picture (Fig.6) shows<br />

Fred Stohlman as Land I am sure all of you, would like to remem ber hirn;<br />

smil<strong>in</strong>g, happy and of course, at a meet<strong>in</strong>g. It is particularly appropriate<br />

that these lectures, by Donald P<strong>in</strong>kel who has done so much for leukemia<br />

<strong>in</strong> childhood and Bob Gallo, as outstand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the field of viral leukemo-<br />
