RESULTS<br />

The AML investigation proposed to study the biologic role of intensification<br />

with CBV and unpurged ABMT by comparing the results with those of a<br />

concurrent nonrandomized control group. We proposed a 3- to 4-year follow-up<br />

period. Once the study began, no additional patients were to be entered. The<br />

results of the 17 patients entered in the CBV program have now been compared<br />

with the control group who, except for the CBV regimen, were treated<br />

identically. The patient characteristics matched in the two groups. The results<br />

are depicted in Figure 3. The Kaplan-Meier plot shows a 75% projected 18-month<br />
