one with non-oat cell carcinoma) received intensification therapy. Their<br />

progression-free survival has been 14, 6+, and 1+ months. Five patients who<br />

had soft tissue sarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma of the lung, gastric<br />

carcinoma, large cell lymphoma, and adenocarcinoma of the lung were treated<br />

upon relapse; one died early, and progression-free survivals in the other four<br />

lasted only 1,2,2, and 4 months.<br />

Toxicity<br />

Hematologic toxicity in these patients is shown in Tables 3 and 4. Time to<br />

granulocyte recovery for 100, 500, and 1,000/mm 3<br />

was identical for first and<br />

second courses, the median number of days being 19,21, and 23, respectively,<br />

from day 1 of chemotherapy. In the second course, time to platelet recovery to<br />

50,000/mm 3<br />

and 100,000/mm 3 was slower than in the first: 23 compared with<br />

20 and 28 compared with 21 days, respectively. Among the 15 patients in the<br />
