Postmortem examination showed no evidence of disease recurrence at the
time of death. Six patients are alive and disease-free at 7,16,17,18,28, and
39 months post-ABMT. The median follow-up of these 11 patients is 15
months. We show in Figure 4 the disease-free survival of this group.
Eleven patients had disease that only partially responded to 1MT, four
from the responding relapse group and seven from the resistant relapse
group. Three patients have died of progressive disease at 5,6, and 7 months
post-ABMT. The remaining eight patients are alive at 3, 6 (3 patients), 7 (2
patients), 8, and 12 months post-ABMT. Four patients have shown further
resolution of their disease on CAT scanning after initial follow-up at 3 months.
One patient whose response we defined as partial at 3 months has no
evidence of disease at 6 months posttransplantation with no further therapy
given. One patient has a mediastinal mass that has remained unchanged for
9 months and may not have active disease. Two patients received localized
radiotherapy to sites of residual disease and subsequently entered CR. The
median follow-up of this group is 6 months.
The overall survival rate was significantly improved in those who achieved
CR after ABMT compared with that of those who did not (P < .001 ) (Fig 5). Two
patients were not évaluable after ABMT, and one patient has shown no
response to 1MT.
