Commander of the Army’s elite Scout Ranger. Lim said “it was all systems<br />
go for the planned movement against Arroyo.” 8<br />
B/Gen. Danilo Lim and Brigade Commander Col. Ariel Querubin<br />
confided to Gen. Generoso Senga, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the<br />
Philippines (AFP), that a huge number of soldiers would join the rallies to<br />
provide a critical mass and armed component to the Anti-Arroyo protests to<br />
be held on February 24, 2005. According to these two (2) officers, there<br />
was no way they could possibly stop the soldiers because they too, were<br />
breaking the chain of command to join the forces foist to unseat the<br />
President. However, Gen. Senga has remained faithful to his Commanderin-Chief<br />
and to the chain of command. He immediately took custody of<br />
B/Gen. Lim and directed Col. Querubin to return to the Philippine Marines<br />
Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio.<br />
Earlier, the CPP-NPA called for intensification of political and<br />
revolutionary work within the military and the police establishments in order<br />
to forge alliances with its members and key officials. NPA spokesman<br />
Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal declared: “The Communist Party and<br />
revolutionary movement and the entire people look forward to the<br />
possibility in the coming year of accomplishing its immediate task of<br />
bringing down the Arroyo regime; of rendering it to weaken and unable to<br />
rule that it will not take much longer to end it.” 9<br />
On the other hand, Cesar Renerio, spokesman for the National<br />
Democratic Front (NDF) at North Central Mindanao, publicly announced:<br />
“Anti-Arroyo groups within the military and police are growing rapidly,<br />
hastened by the economic difficulties suffered by the families of AFP officers<br />
and enlisted personnel who undertake counter-insurgency operations in the<br />
field.” He claimed that with the forces of the national democratic<br />
movement, the anti-Arroyo conservative political parties, coalitions, plus the<br />
