of calligraphy. Part II contains two alphabets of
Roman capitals printed first on black then on grey
background and a magnificent fantasy alphabet
within an elaborate Renaissance engraved border.

First edition of this unusual work of agricultural
engineering, a description of the coulter, a blade
or sharp-edged disc attached to the plough, so that
it cuts through the soil vertically in advance of the
ploughshare – in effect the ancestor of the modern
digger. Of particular interest are the magnificent
engraved plates, combining artistic flair with technical
detail.
