Elegantly printed collection of some forty poems produced on
the occasion of Giovanelli’s ingresso. The finely engraved vignettes
are by Wagner.
The German engraver Joseph Wagner (1706–1780) studied
painting under Amigoni in Venice, who persuaded him to concentrate
on the art of engraving. Wagner not only produced
engravings of many of Amigoni’s paintings and designs, but
later opened a school of engraving in Venice, where he taught
Bartolozzi among others.
