Austrian Woodcarving Weeks 2012 Carvers Programme 30th Sept. - 21st October Austrian Woodcarving Weeks 2012 Non-Carvers Programme 30th Sep. - 21st Oct. Choose to take part 1,2 or 3 weeks, with the possibility to join a tour to South Tyrol. Learn how to carve and sculpt the Austrian way, and take the opportunity to have a gilding/painting class during the third week. Carvers Programme Sunday Arrival – meet your new carving friends at school. There will be tutored carving from Monday to Saturday lunch each week. This should give you ample opportunity to finish your carvings. Also use the possibility to join the special theory classes which are held parallel to the practical class. Weekly schedule for the full day course: Sun 18.00 meet your tutor for the week. Mon to Fri 08.30 –12.00 and 13.30 to 18.00 Sat 08.30 –12.00 Afternoon tea and coffee 15.30 –16.00 Weekly schedule for half day courses: Sunday 18.00 meet your tutor for the week Mon to Sat 08.30 - 12.00 Since this might be a longer course than usual, here are some ideas of how you can use your time to best advantage: - Use your own ideas for a project - Work on a bigger project - Learn more practical and theoretical skills - Start Professional training - Finish your carving by stain, watercolours or wax Prices see page 6. There may be a possibility that you could join in the day tours of the non carving participants depending on space – please let us know if you are interested. Students who attend a half day class could of course also join the non-carvers programme in the afternoon, details see next column. Don't miss the fantastic tour to South Tyrol on the 6th and 7th of October, with visits to many carving venues!! - 4 - For the non-carving people accompanying, we as always, offer a programme with some nice tours and other fun stuff in the surrounding area. Of course this is also an option for half day course participants. Each week we will make 3 excurions to interesting places nearby the school. They will all take place in the afternoon. Several small handicraft venues are waiting for us to explore them. A visit to a cheesery, a glass etching workshop, a trip up the mountain, a herb walk and the making of a herb pillow or cooking something special from Austria with Hilde are all possible programme points. Don't forget you can also sign up to the Wednesday tour – details see below. For the free days, there will of course also be enough time to relax or to do other things like hiking, Nordic Walking (poles are provided), rent a bike for the lovely roads along the river Lech etc.. Please also note the opportunity to book treatments in the Spa of the comfortable Hotel Alpenrose next to the school – so don't forget your swimming costume. Price per week: Euro 75,- / USD 101,- / GBP 63,- Please let us know if you would like to take part in this programme when booking! At least 4 participants necessary. Weekly Excursions: Every week on Wednesday we will give you the opportunity to take part in a bigger full day trip, for an extra fee. The woodcarvers, of course, can also choose to join in. You can sign up for these trips on your arrival, or you can let us know when booking. rd Wednesday 3 of October – Visit to Mainau the world famous Flower Island in Lake Constanz, at this time of the year you can see the Dahlias show. th Wednesday 10 of October – Tour to Neuschwanstein the Castle of King Ludwig of Bavaria – and the mediveal city of Füssen. th Wednesday 17 of October – Trip to the exquisite hunting castle “Linderhof” and to Oberammergau, famous for the Passion Play and the large number of woodcarvers. Austrian Woodcarving Weeks 2012 Tour to Southern Tyrol – Italy 6th - 7th October Carve and relax during winter time, Christmas and New Year 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 We leave on Saturday morning heading south, crossing the Brenner Pass into Italy. After World War I Tyrol was divided with one part given to Italy and the other part retained by Austria. So actually South Tyrol is more Tyrolean than Italian when you look at the culture and the way of life. On the other hand it has for almost hundred years been influenced by Italy, this makes it a very interesting area. Here you will find extremely impressive scenery, the Dolomites are just fantastic, but also a lot of culture and flair from Southern Europe. This together with very good food and wine makes it an outstanding trip especially in the fall when the colours of the trees are changing. Our main stop will be in Gröden – Val Gardena, simply the carving center of South Tyrol and perhaps the world cradle of carving. Here we will be able to visit many carving shops and the famous “Unika Gallery” as well as the The Gherdeina Museum with many interesting woodcarvings from the past. We will stay in the Val Gardena area and also visit some interesting places in the surrounding, like the town Sterzing or the Abbey Neustift. If we get a large enough group, we will try to organize a visit to the Stubai carving tools factory on our way – if this works we might have to move the trip one day forwards or backwards. Price per Person in Double room: Euro 230,- / USD 310,- / GBP 195,- in Single room: Euro 250,- / USD 337,- / GBP 212,- Included: 1 overnight with breakfast and dinner, travelling by bus with a courier, visit to the above mentioned places. At least 10 participants necessary. Do you want to get away from the busy period around Christmas and New Year – or just prefer to spend it together with other carvers? Why not come to Elbigenalp, join a course and spend a peaceful and relaxing holiday in a friendly atmosphere where of course non-carvers are very welcome. During those winter weeks we have a longer lunch break and work later in the evening, so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery at the sunniest time of the day for walks, horse drawn sleigh rides or go skiing in the beautiful winter Alpine countryside. Why not come and join us during the winter time and spend some time carving, relaxing and walking in the beautiful Lech Valley. You can book one week carving with a tutor and another one or two weeks where you can carve on your own. Every day one of our teachers will visit the group and give you advice on any problems you might have. Of course you don't have to carve all the time, so you can get out into the bracing alpine air for walks. Don't forget, while you are away, you will be saving on those expensive heating and lighting bills.
