BACKGROUND
The City of Clermont is the largest city in Lake County, Florida, with a population of just less
than 30,000. The City experienced tremendous growth during the last decade, doubling in
geographic size and tripling in population. The City has approximately 250 employees and is a
full-service City, providing water, sewer, garbage, police, fire, storm water, recreation, planning,
public works and administrative services.
The City’s General Fund budget is approximately $16 million with a total budget of $51.6
million. The budget includes capital project funds for a new police station, a new community
center building, a water treatment plant and the first phase development of a 200 acre passive
park.
The three most important issues facing the City are:
Loss of revenue. The taxable value of property has declined approximately
27% over the past four years.
Alternative water supply. The Water District has mandated the development
of alternative water supplies to meet future demands.
Planning Future Expansion. The City is jointly planning with other
jurisdictions and property owners for approximately 15,000 acres adjacent to
the City.
