KONRAD HILDEBRANDT TAB 6 During the first six months of being in Satellite Beach I would definitely do the following: Understand the vision, goals and objectives of the Mayor and Council – short and long term. This would be accomplished individually and collectively. Fiscal stability – understand, evaluate and propose fiscal and budgeting efforts. Individually meeting with all staff, contracted staff, key city players and residents. Help them get to know me and where I am coming from and expect. Understand Florida and Satellite Beach laws and ordinances. Work hard at giving the City ‘wins’ with the residents. These don’t have to be large items. Just things that let the residents know that the City is working for them! Communication and transparency – evaluate and upgrade! I have worked well with the press in the past. Nonetheless, I have definitely learned and grown from some negative interactions with the press. I have learned that you are ALWAYS on the record – even when you are typing an email in the quiet of your office. The press has their job to do. Unfortunately, I have dealt with some reporters that just want the negative, “gotcha” scoop and don’t do their complete job. There are always ‘two sides to a pancake’ and sometimes you will find reporters that just want to report on one side. I have learned to act and speak proactively and transparently to not only the press, but also our residents to make sure that any future negative allegation will be read, heard and or received with a background and understanding. I have had some heart to heart conversations with reporters who I felt were ‘attacking’ the city unfairly. As mentioned previously, no one wins in these situations and the reporters work for people who ‘buy ink by the barrel.’ There is a possibility that a citizen’s group could contact the City with negativity about me, but please contact my references to get the true story of what happened. My spare time is all about family! Coaching my kids’ sports, helping and being with my wife and kids. I firmly believe Hippocrates when he said, ‘health is the greatest of all human blessings!’ – I like to work out and be fit. REASONS FOR LEAVING MY MOST RECENT JOB: I was the City Manager for over 10 years. I love the City of Cedar Hills and know that there are many great things still to accomplish. However, there is a small, but very vocal element (citizen’s group) in town that is determined to pull everyone and everything down. They believe most actions by the City are negative and they have a direct conduit to the press. I felt that my resigning would hopefully bring peace and new direction to the city – because 99% of the people are great! Page 11 of 62
