Dear Colleague
The Belgian Society of Anesthesia and Resuscitation likes
movement! Since 2000, the SARB has been trying to find an
ideal place for its annual congress. This year, we have selected
“De Montil Congress Center” in Affligem.
This location is situated in the center of Belgium, is easily accessible
by car and offers all the appropriate features for such an
event with 500 participants.
The 2006 theme is:
“NEW CONCEPTS CHANGING ANESTHESIA PRACTICE”
To improve the organization, two innovating ideas have been
added to the program this year. We offer our major sponsors
the opportunity to organize a mini industrial symposium during
lunch time. In the afternoon, there will be 4 interactive presentations
of “Problem Based Learning Discussion”. During the
morning sessions you will find information on these complex
cases at the boots of our major sponsors. The resident and the
anesthesiologist who find the most appropriate solution to
these difficult cases will receive a Personal Data Assistant as a
reward at the end of the day.
We hope that you will enjoy the 2006 SARB congress and that
you will appreciate our new ideas. Remember that participation
is free for SARB members but registration is required before
the end of October.

Language
The official language of the meeting is English, simultaneous
translation is not provided.
Non-smoking policy
The SARB meeting will be a non-smoking event. Smoking will be
prohibited in all congress and exhibition areas.
Certificates
Participants will receive certificates of attendance, including
accreditation details, for scientific sessions. These documents
will be distributed at the end of the afternoon session.

conjunction with the Meeting, participants and exhibitors
agree that neither the Organizing Committee nor the

Major Sponsors

2006 Best Paper Competition
Any scientific paper published by a member of the SARB
between 15 October 2005 and 1 October 2006 may enter the
competition for the best clinical or best experimental paper
award. The board of the SARB will rank the submitted publications.
All publications must be submitted to the SARB before
Friday, September 15, 2006.
Abstract Competition
All submitted abstracts will have to be presented as a poster at
the Annual Meeting.
If the poster has already been presented on another occasion,
the original format may be used unchanged at the SARB meeting.
The jury will be composed of the international faculty and the
members of the scientific committee.
Two categories are proposed: clinical and experimental. The
authors of the abstracts will indicate their choice for one of the
two categories. If no choice is indicated, the chairman of the
scientific committee will indicate the category. The best
abstracts presented by a resident will be given the Resident
Award, which enters the abstract automatically for the ESA
Resident Award competition.
Each member of the jury will rank the abstracts. The abstract
with the best overall ranking will win the competition. Abstracts
will not be blinded.
Abstract forms and detailed guidelines for abstract submission
and poster presentation are to be collected from the SARB
secretariat or www.sarb.be.
All abstracts must be submitted to the SARB secretariat before
Friday, September 15, 2006.
PBLD Rewards
PBLD stands for Problem Based Learning Discussion.
Information on two PBLDs will be available on each of the 10
Major Sponsor stands. The competition forms – which you will
find in the congress bag - must be dropped in the PBLD box in
the Major Sponsor area before 14.00 hrs.
The PBLD Rewards will be presented during the PBLD Rewards
Ceremony - taking place during the Farewell Drink - to the four
contestants who submitted the best answers (two winners for
each PBLD).
The winners must be present to collect their rewards.
