Redundancy:<br />
A case <strong>of</strong> there being not enough work to do in the<br />
workplace. Some workers may be declared<br />
redundant, laid <strong>of</strong>f or dismissed.<br />
Re-entry Visa, also known as Resident Return<br />
Visa:<br />
A visa that allows a permanent resident who is not<br />
an Australian citizen, to return to Australia<br />
following an absence overseas.<br />
Reference number:<br />
A unique number given to every <strong>Centrelink</strong><br />
customer. (see CRN)<br />
Refugee:<br />
A person who, due to fear <strong>of</strong> persecution, has fled<br />
their country and is unable or unwilling to return.<br />
Refugee status:<br />
Recognition by Australia that a person is a refugee.<br />
Relaxed residence requirements for <strong>Centrelink</strong><br />
payments apply to such people if they hold specific<br />
refugee visas.<br />
Refugee visa:<br />
Certain categories <strong>of</strong> visa defined in the Migration<br />
Regulations and Social Security Act 1991. Relaxed<br />
residence requirements for social security payments<br />
apply to the holders <strong>of</strong> such visas.<br />
Refuse an <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> work:<br />
If a person refuses a reasonable <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> work and<br />
thus remains unemployed, payment <strong>of</strong> Newstart<br />
Allowance may be cancelled and a non-payment<br />
period imposed.<br />
Registered Agreement:<br />
Agreement for child support made between the<br />
noncustodial parent and the custodial parent and<br />
registered with a Court or the Child Support Agency<br />
(CSA). It is legally enforceable and cash components<br />
may be collected by CSA.<br />
Registered care:<br />
Paid care that is provided other than by approved<br />
care providers. Care providers can include, for<br />
example, family, friends and nannies. The carer must<br />
be registered with the Family Assistance Office.<br />
Release <strong>of</strong> Information:<br />
The Social Security Act prohibits staff from<br />
releasing customer information without legal<br />
authority. Customers who want <strong>Centrelink</strong> to release<br />
information about them to another person or agency<br />
must give <strong>Centrelink</strong> an authority (in writing) to<br />
release the information to that person or agency.<br />
Remote Area Allowance:<br />
Payment to <strong>Centrelink</strong> recipients living in specified<br />
remote areas.<br />
