<strong>Farsi</strong>/Persian<br />

Language, Literacy or Numeracy program:<br />

Training is available to assist eligible people get<br />

these skills to improve their chances <strong>of</strong> getting and<br />

keeping a job.<br />

Large Family Supplement:<br />

A special supplement for families, with four or more<br />

children, who receive Family Tax Benefit.<br />

Leave bonus:<br />

Salary bonus paid at the time annual leave is taken.<br />

The amount <strong>of</strong> leave bonus is a percentage <strong>of</strong> the<br />

monthly salary paid on top <strong>of</strong> the basic salary (leave<br />

pay).<br />

Leave entitlement:<br />

Amount <strong>of</strong> paid recreation leave to which a worker<br />

is entitled.<br />

Leave pay:<br />

Salary payments made when on recreation leave.<br />

Legacy:<br />

Sum <strong>of</strong> money or articles bequeathed (in a Will).<br />

Legislative scope:<br />

In the context <strong>of</strong> International Agreements, means<br />

the range <strong>of</strong> laws covered by an International<br />

Agreement between Australia and another country.<br />

Letter <strong>of</strong> authority:<br />

Letter giving authority to a person to receive a<br />

message, letter or money.<br />

Liable Parent:<br />

Also known as the non-custodial parent. The parent<br />

who must pay child maintenance to the other parent<br />

or guardian <strong>of</strong> the child. The liable parent must be a<br />

natural or adoptive parent <strong>of</strong> the child, not a stepparent.<br />

Liable to repay:<br />

Under an obligation, legally obliged, to pay back<br />

money.<br />

Life estate:<br />

A right to use the property <strong>of</strong> an estate (and perhaps<br />

the income from it), for the period <strong>of</strong> the<br />

beneficiary's life. (eg, a life interest in a home means<br />

the person has a right to use that home for the term<br />

<strong>of</strong> his or her life). After the beneficiary dies, the<br />

property reverts to the estate or to another specified<br />

beneficiary.<br />

Life insurance:<br />

Insurance against the financial risks <strong>of</strong> death. Either<br />

a lump sum or an annuity will be paid by the<br />

insurance company at the death <strong>of</strong> the insured<br />

person(s) who is (are) nominated by the insured in<br />

the policy. The surrender value <strong>of</strong> the policy is the<br />

value assessed under the assets test.<br />
