INTRODUCTION<br />

Indeed <strong>al</strong>l praise be to Allaah <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Rabb (Creator, Susta<strong>in</strong>er,<br />

Servant and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Se<strong>al</strong> of <strong>al</strong>l prophets.<br />

THE THRONE VERSE<br />

Allah - <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re is no deity except Him,<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ever-Liv<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Susta<strong>in</strong>er of [<strong>al</strong>l] existence.<br />

Nei<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r drows<strong>in</strong>ess overtakes Him nor sleep.<br />

To Him bel<strong>on</strong>gs whatever is <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> heavens and whatever is <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

earth.<br />

Who is it that can <strong>in</strong>tercede with Him except by His permissi<strong>on</strong>?<br />

He knows what is [presently] before <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m and what will be after<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m,<br />

and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y encomp<strong>as</strong>s not a th<strong>in</strong>g of His knowledge except for what He<br />

wills.<br />

His Kursi extends over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> heavens and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth,<br />

THAFSEER (COMMENTARY) OF IMAAM IBN KATHIR ON<br />

THE ABOVE VERSE.<br />

Allah - <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re is no deity except Him, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ever-Liv<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

(Allah! N<strong>on</strong>e h<strong>as</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> right to be worshipped but He) menti<strong>on</strong>s that<br />

Allah is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> One and Only Lord of <strong>al</strong>l creati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ever-Liv<strong>in</strong>g, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Susta<strong>in</strong>er of [<strong>al</strong>l] existence.<br />

(Al-Hayyul-Qayyum) testifies that Allah is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ever Liv<strong>in</strong>g, Who<br />

never dies, Who susta<strong>in</strong>s every<strong>on</strong>e and everyth<strong>in</strong>g. All creati<strong>on</strong><br />

stands <strong>in</strong> need of Allah and tot<strong>al</strong>ly relies <strong>on</strong> Him, while He is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Most Rich, Who stands <strong>in</strong> need of noth<strong>in</strong>g created. Similarly, Allah<br />

said,<br />

And of His signs is that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> heaven and earth rema<strong>in</strong> by His<br />

command. Then when He c<strong>al</strong>ls you with a [s<strong>in</strong>gle] c<strong>al</strong>l from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

earth, immediately you will come forth.<br />

Al-Qur'aan Ch.30 Ar-Room (The Romans) Vr. 25<br />

Nei<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r drows<strong>in</strong>ess overtakes Him nor sleep.<br />

(Nei<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r slumber nor sleep overtakes Him) means, no shortcom<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

unawareness or ignorance ever touches Allah. Ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, He is aware<br />

of, and c<strong>on</strong>trols what every soul earns, h<strong>as</strong> perfect watch over<br />

everyth<strong>in</strong>g, noth<strong>in</strong>g escapes His knowledge, and no secret matter is<br />

secret to Him. Am<strong>on</strong>g His perfect attributes, is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> fact that He is<br />

never effected by slumber or sleep. Therefore, Allah's statement,<br />

(Nei<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r slumber overtakes Him) <strong>in</strong>dicates that no unawareness due<br />

to slumber ever overtakes Allah. Allah said afterwards,<br />

(nor sleep), which is str<strong>on</strong>ger than slumber. It is recorded <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Sahih that Abu Musa said, "The Messenger of Allah delivered a<br />

speech regard<strong>in</strong>g four words:<br />

(Allah does not sleep, and it does not befit His majesty that He<br />

sleeps. He lowers <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sc<strong>al</strong>es and raises <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m. The deeds of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> day<br />

are resurrected <strong>in</strong> fr<strong>on</strong>t of Him before <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> deeds of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> night, and<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> deeds of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> night before <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> deeds of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> day. His Veil is light,<br />

or fire, and if He removes it, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> rays from His Face would burn<br />

whatever His sight reaches of His creati<strong>on</strong>.)<br />

To Him bel<strong>on</strong>gs whatever is <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> heavens and whatever is <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

earth.<br />

Indicates that every<strong>on</strong>e is a servant for Allah, a part of His<br />

k<strong>in</strong>gdom and under His power and authority. Similarly, Allah said,<br />

(There is n<strong>on</strong>e <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> heavens and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth but comes unto <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Most<br />

Gracious (Allah) <strong>as</strong> a servant. Verily, He knows each <strong>on</strong>e of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m,<br />

and h<strong>as</strong> counted <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m a full count<strong>in</strong>g. And every<strong>on</strong>e of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m will<br />

come to Him <strong>al</strong><strong>on</strong>e <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Day of Resurrecti<strong>on</strong> (without any helper, or<br />

protector or defender))<br />

Al-Qur'aan Ch.19 Mariyam (Mary) Vr.93-95<br />

Who is it that can <strong>in</strong>tercede with Him except by His permissi<strong>on</strong>?<br />

(Who is he that can <strong>in</strong>tercede with Him except with His permissi<strong>on</strong>)<br />

is similar to His statements,<br />

These Ayat (verses) <strong>as</strong>sert Allah's greatness, pride, and grace, and<br />

that no <strong>on</strong>e dares to <strong>in</strong>tercede with Him <strong>on</strong> beh<strong>al</strong>f of any<strong>on</strong>e else,<br />

except by His permi And He is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Most High, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Most Great.ssi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Indeed, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hadith about <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>in</strong>tercessi<strong>on</strong>, states that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Prophet<br />

said,<br />

(I will stand under <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Thr<strong>on</strong>e and f<strong>al</strong>l <strong>in</strong> prostrati<strong>on</strong>, and Allah will<br />

<strong>al</strong>low me to rema<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> that positi<strong>on</strong> <strong>as</strong> much <strong>as</strong> He wills. I will<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>reafter be told, "Raise your head, speak and you will be heard,<br />

<strong>in</strong>tercede and your <strong>in</strong>tercessi<strong>on</strong> will be accepted''. The Prophet <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n<br />

said, "He will <strong>al</strong>low me a proporti<strong>on</strong> whom I will enter <strong>in</strong>to<br />

Paradise.'')<br />

He knows what is [presently] before <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m and what will be after <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m,<br />

(He knows what happens to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m (His creatures) <strong>in</strong> this world, and<br />

what will happen to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hereafter) this refers to His perfect<br />

knowledge of <strong>al</strong>l creati<strong>on</strong>; its p<strong>as</strong>t, present and future. Similarly,<br />

Allah said that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> angels proclaimed;<br />

(And we (angels) descend not except by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> command of your Lord (O<br />

Muhammad ). To Him bel<strong>on</strong>gs what is before us and what is beh<strong>in</strong>d<br />

us, and what is between those two; and your Lord is never forgetful)<br />

and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y encomp<strong>as</strong>s not a th<strong>in</strong>g of His knowledge except for what He<br />

wills<br />

(And <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y will never comp<strong>as</strong>s anyth<strong>in</strong>g of His Knowledge except<br />

that which He wills), <strong>as</strong>serts <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> fact that no <strong>on</strong>e atta<strong>in</strong>s any part of<br />

Allah's knowledge except what Allah c<strong>on</strong>veys and <strong>al</strong>lows. This part<br />

of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ayah <strong>in</strong>dicates that no <strong>on</strong>e ever acquires knowledge of Allah<br />

and <strong>in</strong> His Attributes, except what He c<strong>on</strong>veys to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m. For<br />

<strong>in</strong>stance, Allah said,<br />

Allah knows what is [presently] before <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m and what will be after<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m, but <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y do not encomp<strong>as</strong>s it <strong>in</strong> knowledge.<br />

20: 110<br />

His Kursi extends over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> heavens and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth,<br />

Waki` narrated <strong>in</strong> his Tafsir that Ibn `Abb<strong>as</strong> said, "Kursi is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

footstool, and no <strong>on</strong>e is able to give due c<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong> to<br />

Allah'sThr<strong>on</strong>e.'' Al-Hakim recorded this Hadith <strong>in</strong> his Mustadrak<br />

from Ibn `Abb<strong>as</strong>, who did not relate it to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Prophet . Al-Hakim<br />

said, "It is Sahih accord<strong>in</strong>g to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> criteria of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Two Sahihs, and<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y (Al-Bukhari and <strong>Muslim</strong>) did not record it.'' In additi<strong>on</strong>, Ad-<br />

Dahhak said that Ibn `Abb<strong>as</strong> said, "If <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> seven heavens and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

seven earths were flattened and laid side by side, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y would add up<br />

to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> size of a r<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> a desert, compared to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Kursi.'' Allah said,<br />

and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir preservati<strong>on</strong> tires Him not.<br />

(And He feels no fatigue <strong>in</strong> guard<strong>in</strong>g and preserv<strong>in</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m)<br />

mean<strong>in</strong>g, it does not burden or cause Him fatigue to protect <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

heavens and earth and <strong>al</strong>l that is <strong>in</strong> between <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m. Ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, this is an<br />

e<strong>as</strong>y matter for Him. Fur<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, Allah susta<strong>in</strong>s everyth<strong>in</strong>g, h<strong>as</strong> perfect<br />

watch over everyth<strong>in</strong>g, noth<strong>in</strong>g ever escapes His knowledge and no<br />

matter is ever a secret to Him. All matters are <strong>in</strong>significant, modest<br />

and humble before Him. He is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Most Rich, worthy of <strong>al</strong>l praise.<br />

CHAPTER ONE<br />

A GLANCE AT THE CREATION<br />

INITIALLY THERE WAS GAS BEFORE THE CREATION OF<br />

THE UNIVERSE.<br />

Then He directed Himself to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> heaven while it w<strong>as</strong> smoke and said<br />

to it and to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth, "Come [<strong>in</strong>to be<strong>in</strong>g], will<strong>in</strong>gly or by<br />

compulsi<strong>on</strong>." They said, "We have come will<strong>in</strong>gly."<br />

THE BIG BANG REALITY AND NOT A THEORY.<br />

Have those who disbelieved not c<strong>on</strong>sidered that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> heavens and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

earth were a jo<strong>in</strong>ed entity, and We separated <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m and made from<br />

water every liv<strong>in</strong>g th<strong>in</strong>g? Then will <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y not believe?<br />

Al-Qur'aan Ch.21 Al-Anbiya (The Prophets)) Vr.30<br />

RAISED THE HEAVENS WITHOUT PILLARS AND BLESSED<br />

THE EARTH WITH ITS BASIC NEEDS.<br />

He created <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> heavens without pillars that you see and h<strong>as</strong> c<strong>as</strong>t <strong>in</strong>to<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth firmly set mounta<strong>in</strong>s, lest it should shift with you, and<br />

dispersed <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re<strong>in</strong> from every creature. And We sent down ra<strong>in</strong> from<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sky and made grow <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re<strong>in</strong> [plants] of every noble k<strong>in</strong>d.<br />

ALMIGHTY ALLAAH'S POWER AND MIGHT.<br />

sheet for <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> records. As We began <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> first creati<strong>on</strong>, We will repeat it.<br />

[That is] a promise b<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g up<strong>on</strong> Us. Indeed, We will do it.<br />

ALMIGHTY ALLAAH'S POWER OVER THE SHADOW.<br />

Have you not c<strong>on</strong>sidered your Rabb* - how He extends <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> shadow,<br />

and if He willed, He could have made it stati<strong>on</strong>ary? Then We made<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sun for it an <strong>in</strong>dicati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Al-Qur'aan Ch.25 Al-Furqaan (The Criteri<strong>on</strong>) Vr.47<br />

It is Allah who made for you <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> night that you may rest <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re<strong>in</strong> and<br />

A be<strong>as</strong>t will emerge from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth, and with it will be<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> staff of Musa and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> r<strong>in</strong>g of Suleiman, peace be<br />

up<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m both. It will strike <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> nose of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

disbelievers with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> staff, and it will make <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> face of<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> believer bright with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> r<strong>in</strong>g, until when people<br />

ga<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r to eat, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y will be able to recognize <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

believers from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> disbelievers.<br />

It <strong>al</strong>so w<strong>as</strong> recorded by Imam Ahmad, with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

word<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

It will strike <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> nose of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> disbelievers with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> r<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

and will make <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> face of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> believer bright with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

staff, until when people ga<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r for a me<strong>al</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y will<br />

say to <strong>on</strong>e ano<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, O believer, or O disbeliever.<br />

It w<strong>as</strong> <strong>al</strong>so recorded by Ibn Majah.<br />

Ibn Jurayj reported that Ibn Az-Zubayr <strong>described</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> be<strong>as</strong>t<br />

and said,<br />

"Its head is like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> head of a bull, its eyes are like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

eyes of a pig, its ears are like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> ears of an elephant,<br />

its horns are like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> horns of a stag, its neck is like<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> neck of an ostrich, its chest is like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> chest of a<br />

li<strong>on</strong>, its color is like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> color of a tiger, its haunches<br />

are like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> haunches of a cat, its tail is like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> tail of<br />

a ram, and its legs are like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> legs of a camel.<br />

Between each pair of its jo<strong>in</strong>ts is a distance of twelve<br />

cubits. It will br<strong>in</strong>g out with it <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> staff of Musa and<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> r<strong>in</strong>g of Suleiman.<br />

disbeliever left without it mak<strong>in</strong>g a black spot <strong>on</strong> his<br />

face, which will spread until <strong>al</strong>l his face is black <strong>as</strong> a<br />

result, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> people trade with <strong>on</strong>e ano<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r<br />

<strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> marketplace, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y will say, `How much is this,<br />

O believer?' `How much is this, O disbeliever?' And<br />

when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> members of <strong>on</strong>e household sit down<br />

toge<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r to eat, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y will know who is a believer and<br />

who is a disbeliever.<br />

Then <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> be<strong>as</strong>t will say:<br />

`O so-and-so, enjoy yourself, for you are am<strong>on</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

people of Paradise.'<br />

And it will say: `O so-and-so, you are am<strong>on</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> people<br />

of Hell,'<br />

FOR HOW LONG WOULD DAJJAAL (ANTI CHRIST) STAY<br />

ON EARTH?<br />

Asma daughter of Yazeed <strong>as</strong>-Sakan reported <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Prophet<br />

S<strong>al</strong>l<strong>al</strong>laahu '<strong>al</strong>aihiwa s<strong>al</strong>lam say<strong>in</strong>g, “The Dajja<strong>al</strong> would rema<strong>in</strong> <strong>on</strong><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth for forty years, a year be<strong>in</strong>g like a m<strong>on</strong>th, a m<strong>on</strong>th like a<br />

week, a week like a day, and a day like <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> time it takes to burn a p<strong>al</strong>m<br />

branch.”<br />

It is transmitted <strong>in</strong> Sharh <strong>as</strong>-Sunnah.<br />

WHAT WOULD DAJJAAL BRING FORTH?<br />

Hudhaifa reported <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Prophet S<strong>al</strong>l<strong>al</strong>laahu '<strong>al</strong>aihiwa s<strong>al</strong>lam say<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

“The Dajj<strong>al</strong> would come forth hav<strong>in</strong>g with him water and fire, and<br />

what mank<strong>in</strong>d would see <strong>as</strong> water will be fire which burns and what<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y see <strong>as</strong> fire will be cold, sweet water. And of you who will live till<br />

that time must f<strong>al</strong>l <strong>in</strong>to what <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y see <strong>as</strong> fire, for it is sweet fresh<br />

water.” -(Bukharee and <strong>Muslim</strong>) <strong>Muslim</strong> added, The Dajja<strong>al</strong> will<br />

have an eye obliterated over which <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re will be coarse film, and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

word كافر (“Infidel”) will be written <strong>on</strong> his forehead. Every <strong>Muslim</strong><br />

who can write and those who cannot will read it.<br />

Bukharee and <strong>Muslim</strong>.<br />

THE DAJJAAL WOULD COME FROM KHURASAAN.<br />

'Amir b<strong>in</strong> Hurairah quoted Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq (<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> first C<strong>al</strong>iph) <strong>as</strong><br />

say<strong>in</strong>g that Allaah's Messenger S<strong>al</strong>l<strong>al</strong>laahu '<strong>al</strong>aihiwa s<strong>al</strong>lam told<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m that Dajja<strong>al</strong> would come forth from a land <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> E<strong>as</strong>t c<strong>al</strong>led<br />

Khur<strong>as</strong>aan (<strong>in</strong> Iran) followed by people whose faces resemble shields<br />

covered with sk<strong>in</strong>.<br />

Imaam Thirmidhee transmitted it.<br />

Note: 'followed by people whose faces resemble shields covered with<br />

sk<strong>in</strong>,' mean<strong>in</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Persians (<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> people of present day Iran).<br />

THE DAJJAAL<br />

(ANTI CHRIST) AND THE JEWS OF<br />

An<strong>as</strong> reported Allaah's Messenger S<strong>al</strong>l<strong>al</strong>laahu '<strong>al</strong>aihiwa s<strong>al</strong>lam <strong>as</strong><br />

say<strong>in</strong>g, “The Dajja<strong>al</strong> will be followed by seventy thousand Jews of<br />

Isfahaan (<strong>in</strong> Iran) wear<strong>in</strong>g Persian shawls.”<br />

Imaam <strong>Muslim</strong> transmitted it.<br />

R<strong>as</strong>ool Allah (s<strong>al</strong> Allahu <strong>al</strong>aihi wa s<strong>al</strong>lam) said about Dajj<strong>al</strong>, “He is a<br />

young man with curly hair and his eye is bl<strong>in</strong>d….Whoever am<strong>on</strong>g<br />

you sees him, let him recite <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> open<strong>in</strong>g verses of Surat <strong>al</strong>-Kahf over<br />

him.”<br />

Sahih <strong>Muslim</strong><br />

Whoever memorises ten Aayaat (verses) from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

Surathul Al- Kahf (Chapter Cave) will be protected from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Dajja<strong>al</strong>.<br />

[All] praise is [due] to Allah , who h<strong>as</strong> sent down up<strong>on</strong> His Servant<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Book and h<strong>as</strong> not made <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re<strong>in</strong> any deviance.<br />

[He h<strong>as</strong> made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him<br />

and to give good tid<strong>in</strong>gs to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> believers who do righteous deeds that<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y will have a good reward<br />

In which <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y will rema<strong>in</strong> forever<br />

And to warn those who say, " Allah h<strong>as</strong> taken a s<strong>on</strong>."<br />

They have no knowledge of it, nor had <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir fa<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rs. Grave is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

word that comes out of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir mouths; <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y speak not except a lie.<br />

Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m, [O<br />

Muhammad], if <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y do not believe <strong>in</strong> this message, [and] out of<br />

sorrow.<br />

Indeed, We have made that which is <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth adornment for it<br />

that We may test <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m [<strong>as</strong> to] which of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m is best <strong>in</strong> deed.<br />

And <strong>in</strong>deed, We will make that which is up<strong>on</strong> it [<strong>in</strong>to] a barren<br />

ground.<br />

Or have you thought that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> compani<strong>on</strong>s of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> cave and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<strong>in</strong>scripti<strong>on</strong> were, am<strong>on</strong>g Our signs, a w<strong>on</strong>der?<br />

[Menti<strong>on</strong>] when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> youths retreated to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> cave and said, "Our Lord,<br />

grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right<br />

guidance."<br />

THE COMING OF 'EESA IBN MARYAM (JESUS SON OF<br />

MARY) 'ALAIHIM-MUSSALAAM (MAY ALLAAH PROTECT<br />

AND PRESERVE THEM).<br />

An-Nawa<strong>as</strong> b<strong>in</strong> sam'aan narrated , he “Eesa ibn Maryam '<strong>al</strong>aihimmuss<strong>al</strong>aam<br />

(may <strong>al</strong>laah protect and preserve <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m) will descend close<br />

to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> White M<strong>in</strong>aret to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> E<strong>as</strong>t of Dam<strong>as</strong>cus. He will be wear<strong>in</strong>g two<br />

garments lightly coloured with saffr<strong>on</strong>, hav<strong>in</strong>g his hands <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> w<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

of two angels. Whenever he raises his head, precious jewels like<br />

pearls will f<strong>al</strong>l off it. No disbeliever can survive 'Eesa's breadth, and<br />

his breath, reaches <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> distance of his light.<br />

Imaam <strong>Muslim</strong> transmitted it.<br />

THE CHASTISEMENT OF THE JEWS TILL THE DAY OF<br />

JUDGEMENT.<br />

And <strong>as</strong>k <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m about <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> town that w<strong>as</strong> by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sea - when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y<br />

transgressed <strong>in</strong> [<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> matter of] <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sabbath - when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir fish came to<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m openly <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir sabbath day, and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> day <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y had no sabbath<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y did not come to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m. Thus did We give <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m tri<strong>al</strong> because <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y<br />

were defiantly disobedient.<br />

And when a community am<strong>on</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m said, "Why do you advise [or<br />

warn] a people whom Allah is [about] to destroy or to punish with a<br />

severe punishment?" They [<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> advisors] said, "To be absolved before<br />

your Lord and perhaps <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y may fear Him."<br />

And when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y forgot that by which <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y had been rem<strong>in</strong>ded, We<br />

saved those who had forbidden evil and seized those who wr<strong>on</strong>ged,<br />

with a wretched punishment, because <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y were defiantly disobey<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

So when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y were <strong>in</strong>solent about that which <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y had been<br />

forbidden, We said to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m, "Be apes, despised."<br />

And (menti<strong>on</strong>) when your Rabb declared that He would surely<br />

(c<strong>on</strong>t<strong>in</strong>ue to) send up<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m until <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Day of Resurrecti<strong>on</strong> those who<br />

would effect <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> worst torment. Indeed, your Rabb is swift<br />

<strong>in</strong> pen<strong>al</strong>ty; but <strong>in</strong>deed, He is Forgiv<strong>in</strong>g and Merciful .<br />

And We divided <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m throughout <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth <strong>in</strong>to nati<strong>on</strong>s. Of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m<br />

some were righteous, and of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m some were o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rwise. And We<br />

tested <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m with good [times] and bad that perhaps <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y would return<br />

[to obedience].<br />

Al-Qur'aan Ch.7 Al-A'raaf Vr.163-168<br />

THE END OF THE JEWISH RACE WHILE SOME WILL HIDE<br />

BEHIND BOX THORN TREES.<br />

He (Aboo Hurairah) reported Allaah's Messenger S<strong>al</strong>l<strong>al</strong>laahu<br />

'<strong>al</strong>aihiwa s<strong>al</strong>lam <strong>as</strong> say<strong>in</strong>g, “THE LAST HOUR will not come before<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>Muslim</strong>s fight <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Jews and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>Muslim</strong>s kill <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m, so that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Jews will hide beh<strong>in</strong>d st<strong>on</strong>es and trees and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> st<strong>on</strong>e and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> tree will<br />

say, 'O <strong>Muslim</strong>, O Servant of Allaah, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re is a Jew beh<strong>in</strong>d me; come<br />

and kill him.' The <strong>on</strong>ly excepti<strong>on</strong> will be <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Box Thorn tree.”<br />

Imaam <strong>Muslim</strong> recorded it.<br />

THE SWARMING OF GOG AND MAGOG (YA'JOOJA WA<br />

MA'JOOJ).<br />

Then he followed a way until, when he reached [a p<strong>as</strong>s] between two<br />

mounta<strong>in</strong>s, he found beside <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m a people who could hardly<br />

understand [his] speech. They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, <strong>in</strong>deed Gog<br />

and Magog (Ya'jooja wa Ma'jooj) are [great] corrupters <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> land.<br />

So may we <strong>as</strong>sign for you an expenditure that you might make<br />

between us and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m a barrier?"<br />

He said, "That <strong>in</strong> which my Lord h<strong>as</strong> established me is better [than<br />

what you offer], but <strong>as</strong>sist me with strength; I will make between you<br />

and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m a dam.<br />

Br<strong>in</strong>g me sheets of ir<strong>on</strong>" - until, when he had leveled [<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m] between<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> two mounta<strong>in</strong> w<strong>al</strong>ls, he said, "Blow [with bellows]," until when<br />

he had made it [like] fire, he said, "Br<strong>in</strong>g me, that I may pour over it<br />

molten copper."<br />

So Gog and Magog (Ya'jooja wa Ma'jooj) were unable to p<strong>as</strong>s over it,<br />

nor were <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y able [to effect] <strong>in</strong> it any penetrati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

promise of my Lord true."<br />

And We will leave <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m that day surg<strong>in</strong>g over each o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, and [<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n]<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Horn will be blown, and We will <strong>as</strong>semble <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m <strong>in</strong> [<strong>on</strong>e] <strong>as</strong>sembly.<br />

CHAPTER SIX<br />

SEVEN EXAMPLES OF RESURRECTIONS.<br />

EXAMPLE ONE<br />

IBRAAHEEM 'ALAI HISSALAAM (MAY ALLAAH HAVE<br />

MERCY ON HIM) AND THE BIRDS.<br />

And (menti<strong>on</strong>) when Ibraaheem said, "My Rabb (Creator, Susta<strong>in</strong>er,<br />

Destroyer, Recreator, Owner), show me how You give life to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

dead.?" (Allaah) said. "Have you not believed?" He said, "Yes, but<br />

(I <strong>as</strong>k) <strong>on</strong>ly that my heart may be satisfied." Allaah said, "Take four<br />

birds and commit <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m to yourself. Then (after slaughter<strong>in</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m)<br />

put <strong>on</strong> each hill a porti<strong>on</strong> of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y will come fly<strong>in</strong>g to you <strong>in</strong><br />

h<strong>as</strong>te. And know that Allaah is Ex<strong>al</strong>ted <strong>in</strong> Might and Wise."<br />

AlQur'aan Ch.2 AlBaqarah (The Cow) Vr.260<br />

EXAMPLE TWO<br />

UZAYR AND THE RUINED TOWN.<br />

Or c<strong>on</strong>sider (such an example) <strong>as</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>e who p<strong>as</strong>sed by a township<br />

which had f<strong>al</strong>len <strong>in</strong>to ru<strong>in</strong>. He said, "How will Allaah br<strong>in</strong>g this back<br />

to life after its death?" So Allaah caused him to die for a hundred<br />

years; <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n He revived him. He (Allaah) said, "How l<strong>on</strong>g have you<br />

rema<strong>in</strong>ed?" He (<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> man) said, "I have rema<strong>in</strong>ed a day or a part of a<br />

day." He (Allaah) said, "Ra<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r, you have rema<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>on</strong>e hundred<br />

years. Look at your food and look at you dr<strong>in</strong>k; it h<strong>as</strong> not changed<br />

with time. and look at your d<strong>on</strong>key; and We will make you a sign for<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> people. And look at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> b<strong>on</strong>es (of this d<strong>on</strong>key) how We raise<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m and cover <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m with flesh." And when it became clear to him,<br />

he said, "I know that Allaah is over <strong>al</strong>l th<strong>in</strong>gs competent."<br />

AlQur'aan Ch.2 AlBaqarah (The Cow) Vr.259<br />

EXAMPLE THREE<br />

ZULKIFL 'ALAI HISSALAAM (MAY ALLAAH HAVE<br />

MERCY ON HIM) AND THE PEOPLE WHO FLED FROM<br />

THE PLAGUE.<br />

Have you not c<strong>on</strong>sidered those who left <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir homes <strong>in</strong> many<br />

thousands, fear<strong>in</strong>g death? Allaah said to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m "Die"; <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n He<br />

restored <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m to life. And Allaah is full of bounty to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> people, but<br />

most of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> people do not show gratitude.<br />

AlQur'aan Ch.2 AlBaqarah (The Cow) Vr.243<br />

EXAMPLE FOUR<br />

THE ARROGANCE OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL.<br />

And (Rec<strong>al</strong>l) when Moosaa (Moses) said to his people, "O my people,<br />

<strong>in</strong>deed you have wr<strong>on</strong>ged yourselves by your tak<strong>in</strong>g of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>al</strong>f (for<br />

worship). So repent to you Creator and kill yourselves (i.e., <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> guilty<br />

am<strong>on</strong>g you ). The best for (<strong>al</strong>l of you) <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sight of your Creator."<br />

Then He accepted your repentance; <strong>in</strong>deed, He is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Accept<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

repentance, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Merciful. And rec<strong>al</strong>l, when you said, " O Moosaa,<br />

we will never believe you until we see Allaah outright;" so <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

thunderbolt took you while you were look<strong>in</strong>g <strong>on</strong>. Then We revived<br />

you after your death that perhaps you would be grateful.<br />

54<br />

EXAMPLE FIVE<br />

THE MAN WHO WAS MURDERED.<br />

And rec<strong>al</strong>l when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allaah w<strong>as</strong><br />

to br<strong>in</strong>g out that which you were c<strong>on</strong>ce<strong>al</strong><strong>in</strong>g. So We said, "Strike him,<br />

(i.e., <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sla<strong>in</strong> man) with part of it (<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> cow)." Thus does Allaah br<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> dead to life, and He shows you His signs that you might re<strong>as</strong><strong>on</strong>.<br />

Then your hearts became hardened after that, be<strong>in</strong>g like st<strong>on</strong>e or even<br />

harder. For <strong>in</strong>deed, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are st<strong>on</strong>es from which rivers burst forth,<br />

and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are some of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m that split open and water comes out, and<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are some of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m that f<strong>al</strong>l down for fear of Allaah. And Allaah<br />

is not unaware of what you do.<br />

AlQur'aan Ch.2 AlBaqarah (The Cow) Vr.72 74<br />

EXAMPLE SIX<br />

RESURRECTION AFTER THE THREE HUNDRED YEAR<br />

SLEEP.<br />

Or have you thought that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> compani<strong>on</strong>s of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> cave and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<strong>in</strong>scripti<strong>on</strong>s were, am<strong>on</strong>g our signs a w<strong>on</strong>der? (Menti<strong>on</strong>) when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

youths retreated to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> cave and said, "Our Rabb (Creator, Susta<strong>in</strong>er,<br />

Destroyer, Recreator, Owner), grant us from Yourself mercy and<br />

prepare for us from our affair right guidance." So We c<strong>as</strong>t (a cover<br />

of sleep) over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir ears with<strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> cave for a number of years. Then<br />

We awakened <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m that We might show which of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> two facti<strong>on</strong>s<br />

were most precise <strong>in</strong> c<strong>al</strong>culat<strong>in</strong>g what (extent) <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y had rema<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong><br />

time. It is We who relate to you (O Muhammad), <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir story <strong>in</strong> truth.<br />

Indeed, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y were youths who believed <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir Rabb, and We<br />

<strong>in</strong>cre<strong>as</strong>ed <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m <strong>in</strong> guidance. And We bound (i.e., made firm) <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir<br />

hearts when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y stood up and said, "Our Rabb is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Rabb of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

heavens and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> earth. Never will we <strong>in</strong>voke besides Him any deity.<br />

We would have certa<strong>in</strong>ly spoken, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n, an excessive transgressi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

These, our people have taken besides Him deities. Why do <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y not<br />

br<strong>in</strong>g for (Worship of) <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m a clear authority? And who is more<br />

unjust than <strong>on</strong>e who <strong>in</strong>vents about Allaah a lie?" (The youths said to<br />

<strong>on</strong>e ano<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r,) " And when you have withdrawn from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m and that<br />

which <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y worship o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r than Allaah, retreat to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> cave. Your Rabb<br />

will spread out for you His mercy and will prepare for you from your<br />

affair facility." And (had you been present), you would see <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sun<br />

when it rose, <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir cave <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> right, and when it set,<br />

p<strong>as</strong>s<strong>in</strong>g away from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> left, while <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y were (lay<strong>in</strong>g) with<strong>in</strong><br />

an open space <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>reof. That w<strong>as</strong> from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> signs of Allaah. He whom<br />

Allaah guides is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> (rightly) guided, but he whom He leaves <strong>as</strong>tray <br />

never will you f<strong>in</strong>d for him a protect<strong>in</strong>g guide. And you would th<strong>in</strong>k<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m awake, while <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y were <strong>as</strong>leep. And We turned <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> right<br />

and to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> left, while <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir dog stretched his foreleg to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> entrance. If<br />

you had looked at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m, you would have turned from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m <strong>in</strong> flight<br />

and have been filled by terror. And similarly, We awakened <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m<br />

that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y might questi<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong>e ano<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r. Said a speaker from am<strong>on</strong>g<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m, "How l<strong>on</strong>g have you rema<strong>in</strong>ed (here)? They said, "We have<br />

rema<strong>in</strong>ed a day or a part of a day." They said, "Your Rabb is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Most<br />

Know<strong>in</strong>g of how l<strong>on</strong>g you rema<strong>in</strong>ed. So send <strong>on</strong>e of you with this<br />

silver co<strong>in</strong> of yours to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> city and let him look to which is <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> best of<br />

food and br<strong>in</strong>g you provisi<strong>on</strong> from it and let him be cautious. And let<br />

no <strong>on</strong>e be aware of you. Indeed, if <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y came to know of you, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y will<br />

st<strong>on</strong>e you or return you to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir religi<strong>on</strong>. And never would you<br />

succeed, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n ever." And similarly, We caused <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m to be found<br />

that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y (who found <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m) would know that <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> promise of Allaah is<br />

truth and that of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Hour <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re is no doubt. (That W<strong>as</strong>) when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y<br />

(<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> people of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> city) disputed about <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>mselves about <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> affair and<br />

(<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>n) said, "C<strong>on</strong>struct over <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m a structure. Rabb is Most Know<strong>in</strong>g<br />

about <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m." Said those who prevailed <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> matter, "We will surely<br />

(i.e., <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> people) will say <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re were three <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> fourth of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>m be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
