An ‘Always’ Hospital Service Tip of the Week New HCAHPS Survey Pays for Quality of Care With publically reported HCAHPS surveys currently underway, creating a culture of ‘Always’ has never been more important. HCAHPS measures our patients’ perception of the consistency with which we meet their needs; ensuring that facilities will be reimbursed based on the percentage that those needs are ‘Always’ met. ‘Always’ is about every patient, every department, every shift, and every day. In an experience-based survey, patients must experience excellent care on all shifts and with every interaction. Possible question: Q. During your hospital stay, how often was your pain well controlled? Possible responses: A. ALWAYS, Usually, Sometimes, Never Construction Update Exterior Renovations Enhance Safety and Patient Care Sacred Heart Hospital recently embarked on a three year, $20 million process to enhance the patient experience. In addition to replacing the heating and cooling induction units in every patient room, this renovation will also include replacing the original windows and supports installed when the hospital was first built in 1964. Beginning on the North side and ending on the front of the hospital, this process will not only completely change the look of the hospital, but most importantly, it will enhance safety and create a more comfortable healing environment for our patients. As construction is completed on column 37 of the north wing, the renovated column will be unveiled in early May as they transition the project to the room 39 column. Mission in Motion: Saving Lives Around the World Hospital Takes Up Collection for Peruvian Orphans In the effort to better inform our patients of the benefits of the inevitable noises associated with construction, all staff are encouraged to stay updated on the progress in their area. When asked about construction noise, colleagues should reassure patients of the Quiet Hours (8 pm - 8 am), remind them of the project’s benefits, and apologize for any inconveniences. Throughout the month of May, Sacred Heart Hospital will be hosting a supplies drive for the LaCrosse Diocesan Orphanage in Lurin, Peru. This July, Marcia Danzinger, Assistant Director of Sacred Heart’s Short Stay Care Center, will accompany 18 members of local parishes to the Casa Hogar Juan Pablo II orphanage to deliver much needed supplies and provide the physical labor necessary to replace their failing water tank. The orphanage opened its doors in 1985 and provides a loving, faith-filled environment for 64 children to gain valuable skills, learn to be more responsible, and become productive citizens. All who can help are encouraged to donate and place the following items into designated bins located in various departments or by the colleague entrances: • Crayons/Markers/Pens/Pencils • Peanut Butter in plastic jars • Children’s vitamins (cannot be near expiration) • Neosporin (cannot be near expiration) • Monetary donations will also be accepted and used for the water tank project and travel, and should be delivered to Marcia Danzinger For more information on this initiative, please contact Marcia Danzinger at 715-717-4460. National Volunteer Month Hospital Celebrates the Commitment of Our Volunteers On April 17, Sacred Heart Hospital’s Volunteer Partners hosted their annual Spring Recognition Luncheon to acknowledge the efforts of the many dedicated hospital volunteers. In addition, it also provided a vehicle to elect new board members for the following year. Over the past year, Sacred Heart’s Volunteer Partners have performed over 43,000 hours of service estimated at more than $900,000. In recognition of National Healthcare Volunteer Month throughout April, Sacred Heart Hospital honors all hospital volunteers for their commitment to excellence in supporting staff toward providing a superior patient experience for all who come through our doors. “The personalized care our volunteers offer through their daily commitment to Sacred Heart is truly appreciated,” said Mary Pengra, Director, Volunteer Services, Sacred Heart Hospital. “I can’t say enough about how proud I am of their effort and dedication to the mission of the Hospital Sisters.” Earth Day : Spreading Awareness and seeds! Earth Day is a perfect time to reflect about what you are doing to help protect the environment. Everyone shares the responsibility to do as much as they can to preserve the planet’s natural resources today and for future generations. For that reason, on April 20, Sacred Heart Hospital celebrated Earth Day by encouraging physicians, colleagues, volunteers and visitors to protect the environment, reduce carbon footprint, and reduce, reuse and recycle waste. Attendees of the educational booths were also treated to free seed packets (donated by Botanical Interests), a special “dirt cake” dessert, and Culligan Water demonstrations and information. Retirement Announcement Benjamin Lombard is retiring from the Rehabilitation Nursing department after providing 10 years of loyal service as a Patient Care Assistant and serving the mission of the Hospital Sisters. Ben has had a big impact at Sacred Heart. His gentleness with patients and his compassionate ways will be dearly missed. Ben has always gone the extra mile to make work enjoyable, treating everyone with kindness and respect. Ben’s talent making stained glass creations is well-known. His nativity is displayed every Christmas. His Packers helmet lamp will be missed on the floor, but in retirement he will have more time to devote to this passion. Ben is retiring to Alaska. He has been a joy to work with and will be missed by everyone at Sacred Heart. With great appreciation and gratitude, we wish Ben a very happy retirement. Congratulations!
