Brixia is the Latin name of the modern city of
Brescia in Northern Italy. It was established by the
Gauls which were the inhabitants of this part of
Italy before the Romans conquest and the name of
the city comes from their language. The most
important archaeological findings of Roman times
are the Capitolium temple complex and the two
domus that can be visited in the Museum of Santa
Giulia. These domus, incidentally, are among the
best preserved in Northern Italy and let us glimpse
into a distant world that can otherwise be seen only
in places like Pompei.
The city is at the centre of the third-largest Italian
industrial area, concentrating on mechanical and
automotive engineering and machine tools. Its
companies are typically small or medium- sized
enterprises, often with family managements. The
financial sector is also a major employer, and the
tourist trade benefits from the proximity of Lake
Garda, Lake Iseo and the Alps.
On the road toward Brescia, Franciacorta area is 25
km far from BGY. Here ancient wine cellars have
been producing wine for centuries. Today the most
important product is “Spumante Franciacorta”,
exported all over the world.
