Flexible Spending Accounts
You can elect two types of flexible spending
accounts (FSAs) — the Health Care Fund
and the Dependent (Day) Care Fund.* Your
contributions are made with pre tax dollars.
You can make pre tax payroll contributions
to one or both funds throughout the year.
Then, when you incur eligible expenses,
you use your account to pay.
Important: According to IRS rules, you must
spend any money you set aside in a flexible
spending account in 2013. You have until
March 31, 2014, to submit your 2013 claims.
Health Care Fund
The Health Care Fund can be used for a variety
of out-of-pocket medical, prescription drug, dental,
and vision expenses — for you and your eligible family
members — that aren’t covered by any other benefit plan.
Dependent (Day) Care Fund*
The Dependent (Day) Care Fund can be used to cover
the cost of day care for your dependent children under
age 13 or adult day care while you (and your spouse,
if you’re married) work or attend school full-time.
You can contribute between $100 and $2,500 annually.
This amount has been lowered per IRS rules.
Restrictions apply if you elect the HSA medical option.
Note: The Health Care Fund is completely
separate from the HRA or HSA medical options.
You can contribute from $100 to $5,000 annually
(maximum is $2,500 if you and your spouse file
separate tax returns). If you and your spouse both
have a dependent care spending account, your
combined contributions are limited to $5,000 per year.
* Note: The Dependent (Day) Care Fund is for day care only. It can’t be used to pay for a dependent’s medical costs.
