prognosis which might at first sight seem scarcely warranted.<br />

At the same time I may add, that in the interval<br />

<strong>of</strong> three or four years, the gradual change which may<br />

occur in the worst <strong>of</strong> these cases is so great <strong>and</strong> so beneficial<br />

that only a careful study <strong>of</strong> many <strong>of</strong> them, with a<br />

comparison made from my note-books, could have induced<br />

me to credit the degree <strong>of</strong> restoration which time<br />

may bring about.<br />
