1- 8 1st & 2nd C dance right hands across & left hands
back to places
9-14 1st & 2nd Ladies dance across the top & behind the
men’s line, 1st Lady to below 2nd Man and 2nd Lady to
below 1st Man. The ladies cross to their own sides in
progressed places.
15-16 1st & 2nd Ladies join nearer hands & set. (Men do
not set back)
17-22 1st & 2nd Men repeat the track, 1st Man going below
2nd Lady’s position and 2nd man to below 1st Lady’s
position, finishing in progressed places
23-24 1st & 2nd Men join nearer hands & set. (Ladies do
not set back)
25-32 2nd & 1st C dance rights & lefts

1- 4 1st & 2nd C set to partners & cross over passing right
shoulders
5- 8 1st & 2nd C set to partners & cross back to place
passing right shoulders
9-16 1st C lead down the middle & up, 2nd C stepping in
on bar 16 ready for allemande
17-24 1st & 2nd C allemande, 1st C finishing facing 1st
corners
25-30 1st C turn 1st corners with both hands, pass partner
right shoulder in the middle, turn 2nd corners with both
hands, and pass right shoulders to finish in 2nd place on
own sides

21-24 1st C dance half figure of 8 around 2nd C
25-28 1st C lead down between 3rd C & cast up to 2nd

9-12 1st Lady dance a half reel of 3 across the dance with
2nd C, giving left shoulder to 2nd Man to begin, while 1st
Man dance a half reel with 3rd C, passing 3rd Lady left
shoulder to begin
13-16 1st C continue into half reels of 3 on opposite sides,
1st Lady giving right shoulder to 3rd Lady to begin, and 1st
Man giving right shoulder to 2nd Man. All finish on opposite
sides in the order 3,1,2
17-20 1st Lady with 2nd C, 1st Man with 3rd C dance right
hands across, 1st C finishing facing their 1st corner person
(in partner’s 1st C position)
21-24 1st C dance a diagonal half reel of four with corners,
passing right shoulders in the middle to face their 2nd corner
person (in partner’s 2nd corner position)
25-28 1st C dance a diagonal half reel with 2nd corners,
finishing in 2nd place on own sides.
29-32 1st C dance right hands across, 1st Lady with 2nd C,
1st Man with 3rd C.
33-36 All dance 6 hands round to the left, using bar 36 to
cross right foot over left to pivot & face counterclockwise
37-40 All dance halfway round, back to own sides
FILL THE FETTERS
32 Bar Strathspey for 4 Couple Square Set
Lasnik, Boston 50 th Anniv Bk
1- 8 All set to partners, turn with both hands once round,
then dance 8 hands round halfway
9-16 All face as for a grand chain. Turn partner with the
right hand 1 ½ times, pass the next person by the left
shoulder, (ladies dancing clockwise, men counterclockwise),
turn the 3rd person with the right hand 1 ½ times, pass the
4th person left shoulder, finishing in original places on the
sides of the square (2-bar phrasing)
17-20 1st & 3rd C change places with the person opposite
giving right hands and dance 4 hands round to the left
halfway
21-24 2nd & 4th C repeat bars 17-20
25-32 All join hands with partners in promenade hold (ladies
on partners’ left) and set, then all set advancing. Turn to
face out (turning towards partner and retaining promenade
hold) and lead out through original places, then bear right to
new positions, one place clockwise round the square.
Repeat the dance 3 more times, each from a new position

1- 4 1st C dance in towards each other and cast off 1
place, 2nd C stepping up on bars 3-4
5- 8 1st & 3rd C dance right hands across
9-12 2nd & 1st C dance left hands across, 1C finishing
facing the ladies’ side
13-16 1st Lady, followed by her partner, cast up around 2nd
Lady and down the middle to finish between 3rd C and 1st
Man finish between 2nd C, all facing down
17-24 All dance down the middle, and turning right about,
all dance up, 1st C finishing still facing up.
25-28 1st Man, followed by his partner, cast off to 2nd place
on the ladies’ side and cross to his own side, pulling back
right shoulder to face his partner
29-32 1st C turn with right hands once round
33-40 All dance hands round and back
THE APPALACHIAN WALTZ
32 Bar Pas de Valse for 3 Couples
Dale, Leaflet
1- 8 1st C lead down the middle & up, finishing facing
1st corners. 2nd Couples step up on bars 7-8.
9-16 Reel of four with 1st corners, 1st C passing left
shoulders at the end of the reel to face 2nd corners.
17-24 Reel of four with 2nd corners. At the end of the reel,
1st C turn with the right hand into promenade hold.
25-32 1st C dance a reel of three across the set with 2nd C,
beginning by passing 2nd Lady by the right shoulder. 1st C
finish in 2nd place on their own sides.

32 Bar Hornpipe for 3 Couples

1- 8 1st & 2nd C dance four hands across & back
9-12 1st C turn with right hands once round & cast off 1
place, 2nd C stepping up
13-16 1st Lady dance a half figure of 8 up round 2nd C,
while 1st Man dance a half figure of 8 down round 3rd C
17-20 1st C dance diagonal half rights & lefts with 2nd Man
& 3rd Lady
21-24 1st C dance diagonal half rights & lefts with 2nd Lady
& 3rd Man
25-26 All join hands on the sides & set
27-28 All turn partners right hands once round
29-32 3rd, 1st, & 2nd C chase clockwise halfway round the
set to own sides.

1- 4 1st C set & cast off 1 place, 2nd C stepping up
5- 8 1st C cross giving right hands & cast off 1 place, 3rd C
stepping up
9-12 1st & 3rd C dance four hands round to the left
13-16 1st C lead up to the top & cast off 1 place to face 1st
corners. 3rd C step down on bars 15-16
17-24 1st C set to & turn corners
25-32 1st C dance 6 bar reels of 3 on the sides, giving left
shoulder to 1st corner to begin. 1st C, with right hands,
cross to 2nd place on own sides
STARLIGHT
32 Bar Reel for 3 Couples

1- 8 1st C giving right hands, cross over and cast off 1
place, 2nd C stepping up. 1st C turn right about with 2 pas
de basque steps to finish back to back in the middle. All set
as in double triangles
9-12 1st C dance out and cast to the right round their 1st
corners, finishing 1st Man between 3rd C and 1st Lady
between 2nd C. Meanwhile, corners advance diagonally for
2 steps & retire for 2 steps
13-16 1st C turn right about with 2 pas de basque steps to
finish back to back in the middle, 1st Man facing down, 1st
lady facing up. Corners face up or down and all set as in
double triangles
17-20 1st Lady dance up between 2nd C and cast off to 2nd
place on own side, while 1st Man dance down between 3rd
C and cast up to 2nd place on own side. Meanwhile,
corners advance diagonally and retire
21-24 1st Man dance right hands across with 3rd C & 1st
Lady dance right hands across with 2nd C. 1st C finish
facing their 1st corners
25-32 1st C set to corners and partner, finishing in 2nd
place on own sides
& left hands joined with corners. 2nd C step up on bars 35-
36
37-38 All balance in line
39-40 1st C turn right hands to finish between 2nd corners,
left hands joined with corners
41-42 All balance in line
43-44 1st C dance out opposite sides and cast off around
3rd C
45-48 1st C lead up to the top & cross over to finish on their
own sides facing down. 2nd C step down and finish facing
up
49-50 1st & 2nd Ladies, 1st & 2nd men change places
giving right hands
51-52 2nd & 1st C cross over giving left hands to partners
53-56 1st C repeat bars 49-52 with 3rd C, 1st Lady
changing places with 3rd Man, 1st Man with 3rd Lady to
begin
57-60 1st C repeat bars 49-52 with 4th C
61-64 All four couples turn partner with right hands 1 ½
times to own sides

1– 8 1st & 2nd C set twice and dance right hands across
once round
9-16 1st C lead down the middle, 1st Man cross his partner
over while turning to face the top, lead up on opposite sides,
and set to 2nd C. 2nd C step up on bars 11-12.
17-24 1st C turn 1st corners right hands, partner left hand,
2nd corners right hand, and cross with partner left hand to
2nd place, finishing facing down, 3rd C facing up
25-32 All dance a grand chain

1- 4 1st & 2nd C set & dance right hands across half round
5- 8 1st & 2nd C set & dance left hands across back to
place
9-16 1st C down the middle & up, finishing at the top ready
for an allemande, 2nd C stepping in behind them on bar 16
17-24 1st & 2nd C allemande
25-32 1st, 2nd, & 3rd C hands round & back
SETON’S CEILIDH BAND 64 Bar Jig for 4 Couples

1- 8 1st C cross over giving right hands, cast off behind
2nd C, who step up on bars 3-4, dance in front of 3rd C, who
step up on bars 5-6, and behind 4th C, who step up on bars
7-8, to finish in 4th place on opposite sides
9-16 1st Lady dance a reel of 3 with 3rd and 4th men while
1st Man dances a reel of 3 with 3rd & 4th ladies. 1st C
dance up between 4th C to begin the reel
17-24 1st C repeat bars 1-8, dancing up the set to original
places
25-32 1st Lady dance a reel of 3 with 2nd & 3rd ladies while
1st Man dances a reel of 3 with 2nd & 3rd men. 1st C
dance down between 2nd C to begin the reel
33-36 1st C cross over giving right hands & cast off 1 place
to finish between 1st corners, right hands joined with partner
