The Club had its first induction of the year on 19 July and our President duly inducted our latest
Rotarian, En Muhammad Jamalullail Alam bin Mohd Isa, also known as Jeffrey Zain. He was proposed to
the Club by PP Kanesalingam.
Jeffrey graduated in actuarial science and is a director of ASH Resources Sdn Bhd.
Jeffrey is married to Sophia Wang Mei and he likes to read in his free time.

Malaysian Economy & Stock Market….Boom or Doom??
The timing couldn’t be more apt for this week’s guest speaker, Mr. Gan Kim
Khoon of AmResearch Sdn Bhd, to enlighten the members on the state of
our economy and equity market.
The ongoing conflict in the middle-east, raising crude oil prices, raising
interest rates, inflation woes, government policies and domestic political
scenario were some of the interesting topics covered by Mr. Gan.
The overall picture painted was not rosy but there is still some catalysts to
spur up the economy like the 9 th Malaysia Plan, GLC transformation and the
end of interest rate hikes cycle. However, the number of concerns outweigh
the number of potential catalysts.
Due to the present situation, Mr. Gan told the members that there was
limited upside to the local equity market in the second half of the year.
However, that didn’t mean that one should not invest in the stock market at
all.
“….you can still make 10% to 20% return per annum if you pick the right
stocks……it’s better than putting your money in FD,” said Mr. Gan.

What are the RIGHT STOCKS, Mr. Gan?? May be, we should invite him to
speak to us again……..soon we hope!

Youthact Club of Alice Smith School donates
RM2000 to KL Rotary Charity Foundation
We have two special guests this week from the Youthact
Club of Alice Smith School. IPP Natasha Pack and
Youthactor Amirah Al-Idrus dropped by to report on all the
projects that were completed in RY2005-2006.
This Youthact Club was chartered in March 2005 and has
since raised more than RM6000 through cake sales in the
school to fund a number of worthy projects.

Later, IPP Natasha Pack presented a cheque of RM2000 to
President David Teh. The money was part of the fund raised
during IPP Natasha’s presidency and it is hoped that the
money will help the disadvantaged young in President David’s
year.

RC Kuala Lumpur DiRaja Attends RC Makati Induction
June and July are among the busiest months in the Rotary
calendar. Apart from our own, also our sister clubs are
holding their installations or handovers during this period and
it is customary that we attend as many of these as possible.
This year, RC Singapore had its installation on the same day
as ours, and both RC Raffles City and RC Phuket held theirs
one week later. The timing proved somewhat difficult leaving
only one function for a reciprocal visit by our club, the 41 st
Induction of RC Makati. In his first overseas mission in RY
2006/07, David Teh led a small delegation from our club to
attend this.
The advance party of Rtns Peter Tham and Horst Wippern
with their spouses Pinky and Simone respectively flew to
Manila on Thursday 13 July and were joined by President
David Teh and spouse Pitt Lee as well as Rtn H.E. Herbert
Jess and spouse Micheline one day later. Makati's welcome
dinner for sister clubs was held at a casino near the airport.
The after dinner gambling was left to some Makati Rotarians
and visitors from RC Fukui Ajisai (District 2650).
The induction function this year took place at the InterConti
Hotel and was very much a club affair with RC Makati
Rotarians, a few non-Rotary guests, a small group of District
Rotarians and delegations from sister and brother clubs
making up the 200-strong attendance. As usual, it was a
grand affair carried out with a good mix of seriousness and
humour. The latter was provided by a beautiful lady 'program
host'. The club officers, board and advisors – almost 20 of
them - were inducted by PDG Tony Quila with the requisite
decorum.
At a signing ceremony prior to the banquet, Presidents
Conrad Marty and David Teh renewed the 'Matched Club
Agreement' between our two clubs.
During the exchange of gifts session President Teh pledged
'one house' (US$ 1,200) for RC Makati's ongoing Gawad
Kalinga housing project for the underprivileged.
Musical entertainment was among others provided by the inclub
group 'Los Plattidos' singing old Platters songs and a
Matched C lub Agreement signing ceremony

surprise appearance by Bobby Soul, a member of The
Platters group in the 1960s or 70s.
The final fellowship of our Manila visit had been organised at
the night of the induction banquet and found David, Peter and
Horst with their spouses at PP Tito's residence on Saturday
night. It was a nice dinner with some Makati PPs, good
home-cooked food, lots of wine, and excellent company. The
evening was rounded off with a visit to a dance club where our
KL Rotarians proved that they are, or once were, 'captains of
industry' by sub-contacting the dancing bit to resident
dancing instructors.
As in previous years, it was a visit well making the effort for
with excellent fellowships and hospitality, and a chance to
renew friendship with our sister club.

Matching Grant Project with RC Taipei Southgate - Liftvan
During a ceremony in April 2006 'our' liftvan was handed over to the Taipei City mayor by Rotarians from our sister club RC
Taipei Southgate. Being one of many vehicles donated, it will be used for transporting the physically challenged citizens of
Taipei.

Recently, more than 80 people responded to the Blood Donation Drive organised by the Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan. It
was held at Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd's office in Beribi.The club's Community Service Director Tiong Kee Huat said the club will
be organising the event on a regular basis as part of its commitment to community service. The club is also committed to many
other community service projects annually such as providing assistance to the needy for medical, education and training
purposes.
