Club Service - PP Vincent Wong
First I must thank the members of the Club
Service Committee especially the PDGs and
PPs for supporting me in assisting the
President and the Board of Directors in
coordinating the club’s administration in this
Rotary year.
For this Rotary year, our Club had not made
any remarkable strides in terms of membership
growth or retention. In fact we have a negative
growth of 5 members this year, and the
attendance of the members have declined as
well. Our membership started at 114 at the
beginning of the year, and now it is 109 as at
the writing of this message. The attendance
had been above 60% for four months of the year
and the rest of the months had averaged about
56%. Coupled with this, the collection of
membership dues from some members can
sometimes be an issue. We can blame all
these woes on the economy, work pressures,
lack of commitment, or we can take personal
responsibility for the poor performance.
However, we can say that we have tried our
best as the following actions have shown.
On the part of the Club’s weekly meeting
programs convened by our PP Stuart Pack, we
are proud to say that our speakers are top
notch for this Rotary year, thanks to President
Hock Bee and Rtn. K.K. Chong. We have
regular speakers on membership growth and
retention as well as Rotary knowledge like
membership classifications and our
distinguished speakers include our PP Dato
Krishnan, Rtn Zed Cama and DGN Dato Jimmy
Lim. We purchased a new LCD Projector after
using our Club’s Treasurer CM Wong’s
projector for some time, and a wireless
microphone for the speakers was donated by
our sister club, the RC of Raffles City. Our
lunch menu is beyond reproach for the price,
and the support from Shangri-la Hotel
is excellent. We did have two meetings held at
the Mutiara Hotel and one at the Holiday Villa
which was a dinner specially hosted for our
visiting Rotarians from Phuket. My thanks to
Rtn Halim as Club Attendance Chairman and
Rtn Justin as our Sergeant-at-Arms for
excellent service.
Our Club Bulletin is on-line,thanks to Rtn Louis
Cheah, and our senior active members are
sent hard copies by Rtn Horst to keep them
abreast of our club’s activities. We have
numerous gatherings at the Club Assemblies
as well as special events such as the
Deepavali Dinner hosted by PP Kulasegaran
and Rtn Jayabalan, the Chinese New Year
Party and the Hari Raya Party. We have also
set up an Archive Committee under the joint
leadership of PDG Dato Mustapha Ma and
PDG Dato Beh Lye Huat to collect and archive
our club’s long years of memorabilia.
We have also some success in recruiting
members who have left our Club or revitalizing
members who have turned RINOs. We are also
recruiting younger members who will be the
new blood so desperately needed to inject
some enthusiasm and vitality to our club. For
the incoming Club Service Director Rtn Choy, I
would strong recommend that membership
development and retention be the major
objective for his term of office.
In conclusion, we had a smooth and
unremarkable year but I am confident the
incoming Board of Directors and the Club
Service Director will inject a new vigor and
energy into our Club so that we can be truly
proud to be part of the premier Rotary Club of
Malaysia.

As the rotary term of office draws to an end in this centennial
year, I would like to thank our President Hock Bee and my
fellow board members for their support and assistance in
carrying out my duties. More importantly, I would like to
thank all my committee members who have lent a hand and
supported all my projects through out the year. I really
appreciate that!
I thought my year will be doomed when my 1st committee
meeting was only attended by one Rotarian and the
President.
I think the meetings held immediately after lunch was a good
decision and I truly believe that members who attended the
meetings were not just trying to make up but contributed their
ideas and advice as well.
The 4 Way Test should be our guiding principle! I sincerely hope
that you will continue to support me in my fellowship portfolio
next year.

Town, costing Bht 1,000 per night incl. breakfast. Past RI President Bichai will also stay there. I need to have urgent feedback

From The Desktop Of A Rotarian
Installation Nite... yes its that time of the year where the
Rotary wheel in all RCs all over the world hold their annual
proceedings to rotate their office bearers... to say goodbye to
the incumbents... and Welcome a “fresh” set trusting that
the new will bring fresh ideas to them.
That’s the culture of Rotary... as the wheel turns each year,
everyone is given a chance to serve, to lead, contribute and
be a Rotarian. It also reminds those who were in office that,
upon handing over the jewels of office, rejoin to the ordinary
world of Rotarians AND continue to serve from there.
Alas, many who have ascended the summit, takes a “breather”
and never came back... or we lose them to the district.
But my main point is that the WHEEL turns... and if you have
been taking a well earn rest (or have been a RINO)... this is the
time to come in... take on a task (no matter how simple) AND
SERVE. A new ROTARY YEAR is dawning... be part of it. Don’t
worry that you may make errors... a new year and every one is
new to their duties... just apply the 4 WAY TEST and you’ll be
fine.
