Die fast 800 Jahre alte Hanse- und Hafenstadt
ist mit 200.000 Einwohnern nicht nur die
größte Stadt Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns,
sie ist auch das geistig-kulturelle und

Rostocks Stadtzentrum wird seit Beginn des
15. Jahrhunderts von seiner Universität

Rostocks Universität heute zu den deutschen

genießen hier eine fundierte Ausbildung und

Zu den traditionellen Stärken Rostocks gehören
der Schiffbau, seine Zulieferindustrie und
die Ausbildung von Seeleuten. Die Neptunwerft
ist nicht nur Rostocks ältester Schiffbaubetrieb
sondern gleichzeitig auch der viel -
seitigste. Hier entstehen seit Jahren Flusskreuzfahrtschiffe
der Luxusklasse sowie
Gastanker. Aus der Warnemünder Seefahrts -
hochschule gehen seit Jahrzehnten Schiffs -
offiziere hervor, deren Arbeit in aller Welt
Anerkennung findet. Weitere Ausbildungs -
zentren für die Schifffahrt bilden für weltweit
über 100 Reedereien Bordpersonal an Sicherheitstechnik
aus und führen Trainingskurse
durch. Weltbekannte Maschinenbauunter -
nehmen wie Caterpillar, Nordex und Liebherr,
erfolgreiche Technologie- und Gründerzentren
und neue Medizintechnikunternehmen zeigen,
dass sich in Rostock zunehmend Wissenschaft

und den Weg der Hansestadt in die Zukunft

Almost 800 years old, the Hanseatic and port
city is not just the biggest city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
with its 200,000 residents,
it is also the intellectual, cultural and economic
centre of the federal state.
Since the early 15th century one of the main
features of the city centre of Rostock has been
its university whose activities are linked to
names like Albert Einstein, Max Planck and
Heinrich Schliemann. Its nine faculties make
Rostock University one of the German
universities with the widest range of subjects.
Around 15,000 students are currently enrolled
here. In addition to them 550 students of the
College of Music and Theatre enjoy a sound
education here and add to the cultural life of
the city.

Among the traditional strengths of Rostock
are shipbuilding, its supply industry and the
training of sailors. The Neptun shipyard is not
only the oldest ship yard operation in Rostock,
it is also its most versatile. For many years it
has been building luxury river cruise vessels
as well as gas tankers. For decades the Warnemünde
College of Maritime Study has been
turning out marine officers whose work is appreciated
all over the world. Other maritime
training centres provide crew safety equipment
training and training courses for more
than 100 shipping companies from around the
world. Internationally renowned machine-building
companies like Caterpillar, Nordex and
Liebherr, successful technology centres and
business incubators and new medical technology
companies show that science and
practice, tradition and modern life fuse more
and more in Rostock, paving the way into the
future for the Hanseatic City.
But Rostock is not just a city of science and
business, it is also a city of tourism.
One magnet is the seaside resort of Warnemünde
with its unmistakable flair.
Its Alter Strom, the only shipping route for
Rostock until the beginning of the last century,
today is an attraction for tourists from all over
the world. The wonderful beach of Warnemünde,
stretching for miles and miles, used
to be an insiders’ tip but is now known far and
wide, and sailing enthusiasts appreciate
the sailing area off Warnemünde as one of the
best in Europe.

Der Hafen | The Port
Im Mittelalter war der Hafen an der Warnow
einer der wichtigsten Umschlagplätze an der
Ostsee. Eine stolze Flotte mit dem Rostocker
Greif am Bug war Mittler des Handels mit
Skandinavien, dem Baltikum, West- und Südeuropa.
Auf die Blütezeit der Hanse folgte ein
Jahrhunderte dauerndes Auf und Ab.
Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts und in den folgenden
Jahrzehnten verloren Rostock und sein
Stadthafen den Anschluss an die rasant wachsende
deutsche Wirtschaft.
Rostocks Hafen hatte bis 1945 nur eine lokale
Bedeutung, und selbst die ging durch Kriegseinwirkungen
verloren.
In den Nachkriegsjahren wurde er instand
gesetzt. Das Wachstum der DDR-Wirtschaft
und der Aufbau einer großen staatlichen
Handelsflotte erforderten den Bau eines
neuen Hochseehafens, der 1960 in Betrieb
genommen wurde.
Ständig ausgebaut und an die Bedürfnisse der
DDR-Wirtschaft angepasst, erreichte der
Überseehafen 1989 mit über zwanzig
Millionen Tonnen Umschlag – überwiegend
Massenschüttgüter – sein höchstes Ergebnis.
Mit der deutschen Einheit begann der
mühevolle Weg, den ausschließlich auf DDR-
Bedürfnisse ausgelegten Hafen so umzugestalten,
dass er einen akzeptablen Platz im
Ensemble der deutschen Häfen finden konnte.
In den vergangenen Jahrzehnten hat der
Hafen sein Erscheinungsbild und sein
Leistungsangebot gründlich verändert.
Mit einem modernen Ölhafen, mit Anlagen
für den Getreide-, Kohle-, Düngemittel- und
Zementumschlag, mit Terminals für den
Umschlag von Baustoffen und von Stückgütern
ist er nach wie vor ein universaler Umschlagplatz.
Sein Herz aber wurde der Fährhafen
mit den angeschlossenen Terminals für den
RoRo- und Kombinierten Verkehr.

Rostocks günstige verkehrsgeografische Lage,
die gute land- und seeseitige Erreichbarkeit
sowie enorme Investitionen in die Infra -
struktur machten den Hafen an der Warnow
zum bedeutendsten Universalhafen an der
deutschen Ostseeküste. Seit dem Jahr 2000
wurde der Hafen auch mehr und mehr zu
einem wichtigen Industriestandort.
Im Fährpassagierverkehr zwischen Skandi -
navien, Finnland und Deutschland ist Rostock
seit Jahren die Nummer eins.
So wie der Fährverkehr begann auch die
Kreuzschifffahrt nach 1990 auf einem sehr
niedrigen Niveau.
Heute ist Rostocks Kreuzfahrthafen
Warnemünde der beliebteste deutsche
Hafen für die Riesen der Meere.
Hunderttausende Touristen, vor allem aus
Übersee, lernen von hier aus Deutschlands
Hauptstadt Berlin und die Schönheiten
der Küstenregion Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns
kennen.

In the Middle Ages the port on river Warnow
was one of the most important places of
transshipment at the Baltic sea. A proud fleet
with the Rostock griffon on the bow engaged
in trade with Scandinavia, the Baltic states,
western and southern Europe. The heyday
of the Hanseatic League was followed by
centuries of ups and downs.
In the late 19th century and subsequent
decades Rostock and its city harbour lost
touch with the burgeoning German economy.
Until 1945 the port of Rostock was only of
local significance and then it lost even that
as a result of the war.
In post-war years the port was rebuilt. The
growth of the East German economy and the
creation of a large state-owned merchant
fleet called for the construction of a new,
efficient deep-sea port, which was commissioned
in 1960.
Constantly expanded and adjusted to the
requirements of the GDR economy the
overseas port achieved its top result in 1989
at over twenty million tonnes of cargo
handled, most of it dry bulk.
German unification marked the beginning of
the arduous effort to restructure the port,
designed to suit only the requirements of the
GDR, to enable it to find an acceptable place
among the ensemble of German ports.
In the past decades the port has profoundly
changed its look and its service offer.
With a modern oil port, facilities for the
handling of grain, coal, fertilizer and cement,
with terminals for the handling of building
materials and break bulk it is still a universal
place of transshipment. But its heart now is in
the ferry port with the adjacent terminals for
ro-ro and intermodal transport.
The favourable situation of Rostock in terms
of traffic geography, its easy accessibility by
land and sea and enormous investments in
infrastructure have made the port on river
Warnow the major universal port on the
German Baltic Sea coast. Since the year 2000
the port has also more and more become an
important industrial location.
In ferry passenger traffic between Scandi -
navia, Finland and Germany Rostock has been
the number one for years.
Just like ferry traffic, the cruise liner business
too began on a very low level after 1990.
Today the cruise port of Rostock in
Warnemünde is the most popular German
port for the giants of the seas.
Hundreds of thousands of tourists, mostly
from overseas, set out from here to visit
the German capital Berlin and the beauties
of the coastal region of Mecklenburg-
Vorpommern.

Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock wahr -

die Gewinnung neuer Kunden und die
Akquisition von Gütern neue Geschäftsfelder

Die nach der DIN EN ISO 9001:2000
zertifizierte Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft
Rostock ist alleinige Betreiberin des Fährund
Kreuzfahrthafens.
Darüber hinaus ist sie Anteilseignerin der
Betreibergesellschaft des Terminals für den
Kombinierten Verkehr (KV). Aufgabe der
Gesellschaft ist es auch, weitere Dienst -
leistungen, die einer Verbesserung der

Wettbewerbsposition des Unternehmens oder
des Standortes dienen, zu erbringen und zu
vermarkten.
Dazu kann sie Unternehmen gründen,
erwerben, sich an ihnen beteiligen oder sich
anderer Unternehmen bedienen, Hilfs- und
Nebenbetriebe errichten, erwerben, pachten
und Zweigniederlassungen eröffnen.
Soweit es sich dabei um Umschlagleistungen
oder Tätigkeiten im Bereich der Lagerung und
Behandlung von Waren handelt, darf die
Gesellschaft dieses jedoch weder selbst noch
durch ein von ihr mehrheitlich gehaltenes
Unternehmen ausüben.
Erklärtes Ziel der Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft
ist es, den Hafen als ein modernes und
wettbewerbsfähiges Logistikzentrum in der
südlichen Ostsee weiter zu etablieren.
Dafür wurden bereits gute Voraussetzungen
geschaffen. Seit 1991 flossen Hunderte
Millionen Euro in die Verbesserung der
Hafeninfrastruktur.
Mit der Gewinnung großer Produktionsunternehmen
wie des Kranherstellers Liebherr,
den Erndtebrücker Eisenwerken und der in
Vorbereitung befindlichen Ansiedlung weiterer
Umschlag-, Distributions- und Industrie -
betriebe wird sich der Standort in den
kommenden Jahren weiter profilieren.

The federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
and the Hanseatic City of Rostock are
the owners of the port of Rostock.
Their interests are represented by Rostock
Port Development Company. The name of the
company reflects the intention of the city and
the federal state to develop the largest port
in the state in such a manner that it can do
justice to the ever increasing demands of the
forwarding industry and of tourism.
Rostock Port Development Company focuses
its work on the forward-looking improvement
and extension of the infrastructure and on its
maintenance. As the owner of the land, quay
facilities and aquatory it makes sure that
Rostock has all preconditions to continuously
improve its competitive position by cooperating
closely with the shipping trade and port
companies active on site.
On behalf of its owners it pursues an active
policy of establishing new businesses.
When leasing land and renting property it
follows the principle of opening up new

fields of business through more competition
in the port, by winning over new clients and
attracting cargo.
Certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000, Rostock
Port Development Company is the sole
operator of the ferry terminal and the cruise
port. It is furthermore a partner in the operating
company of the intermodal transport
terminal. The tasks of the company also
include performing and marketing further
services that serve to improve the competitive
position of the business or the location.
To this end it may establish, acquire, participate
in or use other companies, establish,
acquire, lease auxiliary operations and open
subsidiary branch offices.
As far as these comprize cargo handling
services or activities in the field of storage
and cargo treatment, the company may
however not perform these by itself or
through a business in which it is a majority
stakeholder.
It is the proclaimed aim of the Port Development
Company to continue to establish
the port as a modern and competitive logistics
centre in the southern Baltic.
Good prerequisites have already been created
for this. Since 1991 hundreds of millions of
Euro have been invested in the improvement
of the port infrastructure.
By attracting large production companies
like the crane manufacturer Liebherr and
Erndtebrücker Eisenwerke and with the
upcoming establishment of further cargo
handling, distribution and industrial
businesses the location will continue
to make its mark in years to come.

Zur Güterabfertigung stehen im südlichen
Bereich von Pier I fünf Lagerhallen
(50.000 Quadratmeter) und direkt am Kai ein
Schleppdach zur Verfügung. Über sie wickeln
verschiedene Unternehmen den Empfang oder
Versand von Papier und anderen Gütern des
Fähr- und RoRo-Verkehrs ab.
Der Im- und Export von Papier spielt in
Rostock eine bedeutende Rolle.
Unmittelbar an die Liegeplätze des Fähr- und
RoRo-Verkehrs schließt sich der Terminal für
den Kombinierten Verkehr (KV) an.

Dort erfolgt die Abfertigung der mehr als
30 Shuttle-Züge, die zwischen Rostock und
Bahnknotenpunkten in Italien, Österreich,
Tschechien, der Schweiz und verschiedenen
Stationen in Deutschland verkehren.
2012 wurde mit dem weiteren Ausbau des
KV-Terminals begonnen.
Es entstanden neue Gleisanlagen und Flächen.
Zudem wurde in neue Umschlagtechnik,
das heißt Portalkräne investiert.
Die Umschlagkapazität des Terminals konnte
damit auf 130.000 Ladeeinheiten verdoppelt
werden.
Betreiberin des KV-Terminals ist die Rostock
Trimodal GmbH. Ihre Gesellschafter sind:
Euroports Germany, Kombiverkehr und Hafen-
Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock.

Sowohl der Fährterminal als auch die KV-

eine Hochstraße direkt an die Autobahn A19

Five storage sheds (50,000 sq. m) in the

The import and export of paper plays a major
role in Rostock. The intermodal transport
terminal is situated right next to the berths for
ferry and ro-ro traffic.
This is where the more than 30 shuttle trains
are handled that operate between Rostock
and railway hubs in Italy, Austria, the Czech
Republic, Switzerland and various stations in
Germany.
A further upgrade of the intermodal transport
terminal was started in 2012. New railway
tracks and areas were built and new handling
equipment – gantry cranes – was obtained.
This has doubled the handling capacity of the
terminal to 130,000 load units.
The operator of the intermodal transport
terminal is Rostock Trimodal GmbH.
Its shareholders are Euroports Germany,
Kombiverkehr and Rostock Port Development
Company.

Am Liegeplatz 21 gehen Düngemittel, Splitt
und andere Baustoffe über die Kaikante.
Am benachbarten Liegeplatz 22 werden
Schüttgüter wie Dolomit, Holzschnitzel und
Gips im- oder exportiert.
Die Liegeplätze 23 und 24 sind auf den
Import von Kohle spezialisiert.
Für den Umschlag stehen zwei Schiffsentlader
mit angeschlossenem Förderbandsystem, vier
Brückenkrane und eine Waggonbeladestation
zur Verfügung.
Das Zentrum des Terminals bilden große Freilager
mit einem Fassungsvermögen von mehr
als 450.000 Tonnen. Die tägliche Löschrate
von Kohle beträgt 20.000 Tonnen.
Der Liegeplatz 25 ist für den Umschlag von
Schwergut mit einer Flächenbelastung von bis
zu 25 Tonnen pro Quadratmeter ausgelegt.
Fertilizer, split gravel and other building materials
are loaded and unloaded at berth 21.
Dry bulk goods such as dolomite, wood chips
and gypsum are imported and exported via
neighbouring berth 22.
Berths 23 and 24 specialized in import of
coal. Two ship unloading plants with attached
conveyor belt system, four gantry cranes
and a wagon loading station are available for
handling.
The centre of the terminal consists of large
open-air storages spaces with a capacity of
more than 450,000 tonnes. The daily
dis charge rate for coal is 20,000 tonnes.
Berth 25 is designed for the handling of heavy
cargo with a surface load up to 25 tonnes
per square metre.

Am Liegeplatz 12 befindet sich ein speziell
für Düngemittel ausgelegtes Terminal mit
einem Schiffsbelader. Ein Förderbandsystem
verbindet den Kai mit zwei Düngemittel-
Lagerhallen und einer Waggonentladestation.
Die Anlieferung erfolgt per Bahn oder LKW.
Umgeschlagen werden vorwiegend Nitrat -
dünger und Kalkammonsalpeter. Die Anlage
dient der Belieferung des internationalen wie
auch des deutschen Marktes.
Für den Liegeplatz 12 stehen gedeckte Lager
für 60.000 Tonnen zur Verfügung. Die Laderate
beträgt 1.000 Tonnen pro Stunde.
Am Liegeplatz 13 wird seit 2004 Getreide
umgeschlagen. Ein neuer Schiffsbelader
(600 Tonnen pro Stunde) und neue Siloanlagen
für Getreide erweitern die bisher nutzbaren
Kapazitäten.
Der Hauptteil der neu entstandenen Nordpier
wird von dem Unternehmen Liebherr genutzt,
das hier seit 2005 maritime Krane fertigt und
in alle Welt exportiert.
Die Liegeplätze 14 und 15, zu denen eine
10.000 Quadratmeter große Vorstellfläche
gehört, eignet sich für den Umschlag von
Schwergütern und Projektladung.
Am Liegeplatz 15 befindet sich zwischen
Poller 30 und 31 eine 25 Meter breite Rampe.
Im Süden von Pier III hat die Power Oil
Rostock GmbH, eine 100prozentige Tochter der
Getreide AG, auf einer 53.000 Quadratmeter
großen Fläche im Jahr 2006 eine Extraktionsanlage
für pflanzliche Öle und Fette errichtet.
Die Ölmühle kann pro Tag 1.600 Tonnen Rapssaat
verarbeiten.

At berth 12 there is a terminal with a ship
loader especially designed for fertilizer. A conveyor
belt system links the quay with two fertilizer
storage sheds and a wagon unloading
station.
Delivery is performed by rail or truck.
The goods handled are mostly nitrate fertilizer
and calcium ammonium nitrate.
The facility is used for delivering both to the
international and the German market.
Covered storage for 60,000 tonnes is available
for berth 12. The loading rate is 1,000 tonnes
per hour.
Berth 13 is used for grain handling since
2004. A new ship loading plant (600 tonnes
per hour) and new silo facilities for grain add
to the capacity previously available.
A major part of the newly created north pier
is used by Liebherr who have been producing
marine cranes here since 2005, exporting
them all over the world.
Berths 14 and 15 with an adjacent
10,000 sq. m open-air storage area are wellequipped
for handling heavy loads and
project cargo. At berth 15 there is a 25 m
wide ramp between bollards 30 and 31.
South of Pier III the company Power Oil
Rostock GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Getreide AG, built an extraction facility for
plant oil and fat on an area of 53,000 sq. m
in 2006. The oil mill is able to process
1,600 tonnes of rapeseed per day.

Am Liegeplatz 10 können Schiffe mit einer

Der im Jahr 2007 neu gebaute Querkai befindet
sich an der Südseite des Hafenbeckens C
und ist für einen Umschlag von Lasten bis fünf
Tonnen pro Quadratmeter ausgelegt.
Die neue Kaianlage ist als hafenwirtschaft -
liche Fläche insbesondere für den Umschlag
von schweren und sperrigen Stückgütern
vorgesehen.
Der Kai ist mit einer Kranbahn und einer
Umschlagfläche von knapp 5.000 Quadrat -
metern (190 Meter lang und 26 Meter breit)

Am Liegeplatz 16 werden mit drei Kranen,
die wahlweise mit Haken oder Greifer
ausgerüstet werden können, Baustoffe,
Bleche und Düngemittel gelöscht.
Per Schiffsbelader werden am Liegeplatz 17
Getreide und Malz exportiert.
Am benachbarten Liegeplatz 18 erfolgt per
Schiffsentlader der Import von Braugerste und
von Getreide. Außerdem werden hier selbstentladende
Schiffe mit Baustoffen abgefertigt.
Ein Förderbandsystem verbindet die
Liegeplätze 17 und 18 mit den Silos.
In unmittelbarer Kainähe befindet sich
eine der größten Mälzereien Europas.
Sie verarbeitet vorwiegend einheimische
Braugerste und beliefert Brauereien
in Deutschland, Europa und Übersee.

The new transverse quay built in 2007 is at
the southern end of port basin C and is
designed for handling of loads up to five
tonnes per square metre.
As a port area the new quay facility is
earmarked especially for handling heavy and
bulky goods.
The quay is equipped with a craneway and
a handling area of just under 5,000 square
metres (190 metres long and 26 metres wide).
Berth 16 with its three cranes that may be

largest malt factories in Europe. It processes
mostly domestic brewer’s barley and supplies
breweries in Germany, Europe and overseas.

Der Betreiber des Ölhafens, die Großtanklager
Ölhafen Rostock GmbH, ist ein Gemeinschaftsunternehmen
von Euroports Germany
und der TOTAL Deutschland GmbH. Er verfügt
über drei Tanklager mit einem Fassungs -
vermögen von etwa 700.000 Kubikmetern.
Über sechs Schiffsliegeplätze werden Öle und
Treibstoffe angelandet, gelagert, gegebenenfalls
bearbeitet und per Pipeline, Tankkraft -
wagen oder Kesselwagen weitertransportiert.
Die Liegeplätze 1 und 2 werden von Bunkerschiffen
genutzt.
Die Liegeplätze 3 bis 6 und die Tankanlagen
sind per Pipeline für Rohöl mit den Raffinerien
in Schwedt und Leuna und für Rohbenzin mit
Böhlen verbunden.
Es können Tanker mit Ladungen bis
100.000 Tonnen bei Stundenleistungen bis
6.000 Tonnen abgefertigt werden.
Herkunftsländer von Diesel, Benzin und Heizöl
sind Skandinavien, das Baltikum, Russland,
Großbritannien und Frankreich, Rohbenzin und
Benzol werden vorwiegend aus Südeuropa,
dem Baltikum und der USA importiert.
Die Liegeplätze 1 bis 5 wurden in den
zurückliegenden Jahren umfassend
rekonstruiert.

The operator of the oil port, Grosstanklager
Ölhafen Rostock GmbH, is a joint venture of
Euroports Germany and TOTAL Deutschland
GmbH. It operates three tank farms with a
capacity of around 700,000 cubic metres.
Oil and fuels are landed via six berths, stored,
processed if necessary and forwarded via
pipeline, tanker trucks or tank wagons.
Berths 1 and 2 are used by bunker vessels.
Berths 3 to 6 and the tank facilities are linked
to the refineries in Schwedt and Leuna via
a crude oil pipeline and with Böhlen via a
naphtha pipeline.
The oil port is able to service tankers with
cargoes up to 100,000 tonnes, with hourly
handling rates of up to 6,000 tonnes.
The countries of origin for diesel, petrol and
fuel oil are Scandinavia, the Baltic states,
Russia, the UK and France. Naphtha and
benzene are mainly imported from southern
Europe, the Baltic states and the US.
Berths 1 to 5 have been thoroughly upgraded
in recent years.

Der am Seekanal gelegene Hafenteil verfügt
über sechs Liegeplätze P1 bis P6 für
Fahrgastschiffe, Segelschiffe und Sportboote.
Diese Liegeplätze können bei Bedarf aber
auch für die Abfertigung von Kreuzfahrt -
schiffen mit einem Tiefgang von bis zu
6,55 Meter genutzt werden. Zwei weitere
Liegeplätze P7 und P8 stehen für große
Kreuzfahrtschiffe zur Verfügung.
Der Kreuzfahrthafen in Warnemünde
ermöglicht selbst den größten Schiffen ein
schnelles und sicheres Manövrieren.
Busparkplätze und die unmittelbare Nachbarschaft
des Bahnhofs bieten den Touristik-
Unternehmen ideale Bedingungen.
Der enorme Zuspruch, den Warnemünde in
den vergangenen Jahren erlebte, veranlasste
die Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock
als Betreiberin des Passagierhafens,
im Herbst 2004 zum Bau eines neuen Kreuzfahrt-Terminals.
Das 3.200 Quadratmeter große zwei -
geschossige „Warnemünde Cruise Center“,
das am 1. Mai 2005 eröffnet wurde,
ist für einen Passagierwechsel von bis zu
5.000 Passagieren am Tag ausgelegt.
Es bietet Komfort auf höchstem Niveau und
alle Sicherheitsvorkehrungen gemäß ISPS.
Im Mai 2006 wurde ein zweiter Passagier -
terminal an Liegeplatz P8 in Betrieb
genommen.
Der Liegeplatz P8 wurde von 2007 bis 2008
auf einer Länge von 465 Metern komplett
neu gebaut und die Wassertiefe auf 10,00
Meter erhöht.

This part of the port, situated right at the sea
channel, has six berths P1 to P6 for pleasure
boats, sailing ships and sports boats.
If necessary these berths can however be
used by cruise liners with a draught up to
6.55 metres. Another two berths P7 and P8
are available for large cruise liners.
Warnemünde cruise port allows even the
largest vessels to manoeuvre quickly and
safely. Parking spaces for coaches and the
immediate vicinity of the railway station
provide ideal conditions for tourist businesses.
The enormous popularity enjoyed by
Warnemünde in recent years caused Rostock
Port Development Company as the operator of
the passenger terminal to build a new cruise
terminal in autumn 2004. The 3,200 sq. m,
two-storey “Warnemünde Cruise Center“
which opened on 1 May 2005 is designed to
handle up to 5,000 passengers per day.
It offers the highest level of comfort and all
safety precautions according to the ISPS.
A second passenger terminal at berth 8
was inaugurated in May 2006. Berth P8 was
completely rebuilt on a length of 465 metres
between 2007 and 2008 and the water depth
was increased to 10 metres.

Neben dem Seehafen, dem Chemiehafen und
dem Fracht- und Fischereihafen hat Rostock
vier weitere Häfen. Der Stadthafen hat
24 Liegeplätze mit Tiefgängen bis 4,40 Meter.
Er wird nicht mehr für die Handelsschifffahrt,
sondern von Sportbooten, Museumsschiffen
und für den Tourismus genutzt.
Nördlich des Stadthafens liegt der Werks -
hafen der INTERSEROH Metallaufbereitung
Rostock mbH (MAB) mit vier Anlegern und
einem zulässigen Tiefgang von 5,49 Meter.
Am Müsing-Kai, gelegen zwischen der Werft
in Warnemünde und dem Überseehafen,
finden zur Zeit Rekonstruktionsarbeiten der
Kai-Anlagen statt.
Das Maritime Gewerbegebiet MAGEB, südlich
der Werft in Warnemünde gelegen, verfügt
über Liegeplätze mit einem zulässigen Tiefgang
von bis zu 6,40 Meter, die vorwiegend
für Reparatur und Schiffsneubauten der
NEPTUN WERFT GmbH genutzt werden.
In addition to the seaport, chemical port and
cargo and fishery port, there are four other
ports. The city harbour provides 24 berths
with a maximum draft of up to 4.40 meters. It
is not used anymore for commercial shipping,
but by sport boats, museum ships and the
tourism industry.
North of the city harbour, the industrial port of
the company INTERSEROH Metallaufbereitung
Rostock mbH (MAB) possesses four
berths with a maximum draft of up to 5.49
meters.
Müsing-Kai in the vicinity of the Warnemünde
shipyard and Rostock seaport is closed at this
moment due to construction work.

used for ship repairs and new ship building by
NEPTUN WERFT GmbH.

Warnow tunnel
Im Süden des Seehafens befindet sich der 790
Meter lange Warnowtunnel. Deutschlands
erstes privat finanziertes Straßenbauprojekt
wurde am 12. September 2003 eröffnet.
Die Gesellschafter sind BOUYGUES Travaux
Publics S.A. (F) und European Transport
Investments (UK) c/o Macquarie Bank Ltd.
Der Warnowtunnel verbindet schnell, günstig,
sicher und bequem die Regionen östlich und
westlich der Warnow. Damit kann die vom
Verkehr oftmals überlastete Rostocker Innenstadt
zügig umfahren werden.
Wer den Warnowtunnel nimmt, erspart sich
das Stop-and-Go vor zahlreichen Ampeln,
meidet die Staugefahr und schont die Umwelt.
Zusätzlich gewinnt man Zeit beispielsweise
bei der Fahrt in Richtung West.
Die Benutzung des Warnowtunnels ist mautpflichtig.
Die Nutzer zahlen bar, mit EC- oder
Kreditkarte und mit speziellen Flottenkarten.
Mit einem RFID-Streifen oder der „OSCARD“
(Tunnel-Kundenkarte), ist die Passage noch
schneller und günstiger zu befahren.
South of the seaport is the 790 m Warnow
tunnel. It is Germany’s first privately financed
road construction project and was opened on
12 September 2003. Its shareholders are

The Warnow tunnel provides a quick,
reasonably priced, safe and convenient
connection between regions east and west of
river Warnow. It allows traffic to swiftly
bypass the inner city of Rostock with its
frequent congestions. Users of the Warnow
tunnel save themselves the stop and go at the
numerous traffic lights, avoid getting stuck in
traffic and go easy on the environment.
One also saves time, for instance when travelling
west.
A toll is charged for using the Warnow tunnel.
Users pay in cash, by EC card or credit card
and with special fleet cards. With an RFID
strip or an “OSCARD“ (tunnel loyalty card)
the trip through the tunnel is even faster and
better value.

Rostock is situated in the W-part of the Baltic
Sea, at the mouth of the river Warnow,
Lat: 54°09' N, Long: 012°06' E.
Rostock is the principal port of Mecklenburg-
Vorpommern. The yearly handling results are
appr. 26 million tonnes.
Tidal range and flow
Tide is imperceptible, but strong winds from
S directions may lower and gales from
N directions may raise the water level
up to +/– 1.5 m.
Weather
Prevailing winds: Westerly
Ice: The River and the shallow waters in the
estuary normally freeze in the winter, but the
channels are kept open as long as possible,
and the ports are seldom closed.
Density: The water in the estuary and in the
port of Rostock is fresh to brackish with a
density varying from 1006 to 1009 kg/m³.
Restrictions and Shipmax
No obstacles, no locks, bridges etc.;
no restrictions for entering at night normally.
Generally the Port of Rostock can accommodate
vessels of LOA 295 m and or beam 45 m ;
draught 13,00 m, but vessels exceeding
LOA 230 m and or beam 36 m and or draught
12,00 m are requested to obtain permission
from Waterway and Shipping Board.
Vessels bound for Fracht- und Fischereihafen
exceeding LOA 125 m and or beam 17,5 m and
or draught 7,50 m are also requested to obtain
permission from Waterway and Shipping
Board.
Anchorages
In the roads, 4–6 nm NW of Warnemunde,
there are two recommended anchorages in
depths of 13–17 m, bottom mud and sand.
They are unsheltered from W, N and NE
winds. Anchorage No. 2 is reserved for tankers,
vessels with dangerous cargo and for
bunkering; Anchorage No.1 for other vessels.
Traffic Schemes
Sea buoys, fairways and channels:
River Warnow is approached from the Bay of
Mecklenburg through a buoyed and lighted
fairway channel, 5nm in length, 14,50m depth,
leading to Warnemuende and a sea channel
leading to Seehafen Rostock.
Traffic Organisation Service (VTS Centre)
”Warnemuende Traffic”, situated in Warnemuende,
continuously controls all movements
between the approach buoy and the Rostock
harbours and should be contacted via VHF ch
73 as soon as possible (normally two hours
before approach buoy).

Chemiehafen der YARA Rostock
YARA Rostock als Unternehmen des
weltweit führenden Mineraldüngemittelherstellers
YARA International ASA leistet als
Produzent von Stickstoffdüngemitteln einen
wertvollen Beitrag zur Versorgung der
Land wirtschaft mit Pflanzennährstoffen.
In Poppendorf bei Rostock befinden sich
die Anlagen zur Herstellung verschiedener
Mine ral dünge mittel.
Ammoniaktanker
Der dazu notwendige Hauptrohstoff
Ammoniak wird per Schiff geliefert, im
werkeigenen Chemiehafen Rostock-Peez
umgeschlagen und in einem Tanklager
zwischengelagert, bevor er per Pipeline
nach Poppendorf gelangt.
Durch eine zweite Pipeline wird der dort
hergestellte Flüssig dünger zurück in
das Tanklager transportiert und später in
Schiffe verladen.
YARA Rostock bietet Investoren
vollerschlossene Industrieflächen von
insgesamt ca. 110 ha in Poppendorf und
ca. 10 ha im Hafenareal Rostock-Peez mit
zahlreichen Stand ortsynergien und der
vorhandenen Infrastruktur an.
Dazu gehören neben der Auto bahn- bzw.
Eisenbahnanbindung und den Ver sor -
gungs möglichkeiten mit Ver brau chs -
medien (Dampf, Elektroenergie, Wasser,
Erdgas…) die Nutzung von Dienst leistun -
gen der werkeigenen Feuerwehr sowie der
mechanischen und elektrotechnischen
Werkstätten und des Labors des Unter -
nehmens, aber auch der zahlreich werk -
ansässigen Servicefirmen.

YARA Rostock is a subsidiary of YARA
International ASA, the world’s leading
supplier of plant nutrients, making an
important contribution as a large-scale
producer of nitrogen based fertilizers,
an essential ingredient in agriculture.
The production facilities are located at
its site in Poppendorf in the vicinity of
Rostock.
Ammonia vessel
Ammonia, the key raw material for all
nitrogen based fertilizers, is delivered to
Rostock-Port, where it is intermittently
stored in the company’s owned terminal
facilities at Rostock-Peez before being
pumped to the production site at Poppendorf
by underground pipeline.
These terminal facilities are also used for
global shipment of the liquid fertilizer.
Transport between the production site and
the port is arranged by a separate underground
pipeline.
YARA Rostock is a very attractive partner
for potential investors offering fully deve -
loped land designated for industrial use at
its premises in Poppendorf (approx.
110 hectares in total) and at Rostock-Port
in Peez (approx. 10 hectares).
Both locations have strong motorway or
railroad connections and can provide
substantial synergies with the available site
infrastructure; e.g. supply possibilities with
utilities (steam, electricity, water, natural
gas, …), use of services (YARA-fire
brigade, mechanical and electrical workshops,
laboratory, various site resident providers).
