MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF
ROSCOMMON COUNTY COUNCIL HELD IN THE COUNCIL
CHAMBER, COURTHOUSE, ROSCOMMON, ON MONDAY THE
27 TH JUNE, 2011 AT 2.15 P.M.

At the outset of the Meeting the Cathaoirleach, Councillor Ernie Keenan requested that
the 2011 AGM of Roscommon County Council be postponed until the 18 th July 2011 in
order to allow for negotiations to continue on the future of services at Roscommon
County Hospital which commenced at the Department of Health last week between th
Mayor, Oireachtas members, Hospital Action Committee, the Minister for Health and his
officials. He continued that the negotiations on the issue of Roscommon County Hospital
were at a critical stage and he asked for the support of all of the members in agreeing to
adjourn the AGM of Roscommon County Council until Monday the 18 th July, 2011.
A heated debate took place on the matter. The Fianna Fáil/Independent Alliance members
argued that all members of the Council should have been informed of last week’s meeting
with Minister Reilly and of the proposal to adjourn this meeting as soon as it was mooted
by Fine Gael.
The following issues were raised:-
• Clarification requested on Standing Orders in relation to adjournment of AGM.
• Very cynical exercise to postpone the meeting.
• HSE have been requested to attend a meeting at Roscommon County Hospital within
7 days.
• Management and HSE consistently opposed to maintaining services at Roscommon
County Hospital.
• Need for public announcement in the Dáil on saving the Hospital

The Meetings Administrator outlined to the members the legislation in the Local
Government Act, 2001 and the Standing Orders in relation to the adjournment of an
Annual General Meeting.

On the PROPOSAL of Councillor Ward
SECONDED by Councillor E. Murphy
It was AGREED to adjourn the meeting for ten minutes to allow for a discussion
between the various party groups.
The meeting reconvened at 3.00 p.m. and Councillor Crosby informed the meeting that
the groups were still very disappointed that all members were not informed of the
possible adjournment of the 2011 AGM but that in the best interests of Roscommon
County Hospital the Fianna Fáil/Independent Alliance would agree to the adjournment of
the AGM until the 18 th July, 2011.

It was AGREED that the Annual General Meeting of Roscommon County Council be
adjourned to the 18 th July, 2011.
