SCARRY - (The family name SCARRY was very promintent in the Glennamaddy
and Mountbellew area of East Galway from 1800 onwards until about 1900 when
most of the families appear to have emigrated. Land at Woodfield, Glennamaddy was
recorded via Griffiths register as tenanted by several SCARRY names. John
SCARRY moved from Glennamaddy to Mitchelstown, Co Cork in about 1900and
several children and current grandchildren remain in various parts of England and
USA. My wife was named SCARRY and we have found that over 132 names were
listed in USA Social security numbers many from the New York area where they
emigrated in 1900 or thereabouts. When last in Galway library I found that the
SCARRY name was, possibly, one of the original tribe names in Galway and is very
ancient. A John SCARRY currently resides in Woodfield, Glennamaddy but does not
appear to be from the same family line as my wife. We have identified the land area,
which was rented to John SCARRY in 1855, but it has long since been sold and is
now occupied by a larger farming operation. We have been unable to trace any
records prior to 1855 and there do appear to be some discrepancies with Christian
names on marriage and birth certificates.), Brian Lloyd-James, bdlj@lineone.net
