The Child-<strong>to</strong>-Child Trust<br />

The Child-<strong>to</strong>-Child Trust acts as the central<br />

core of a worldwide movement of health and<br />

education workers and programmes.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce 1979, people who have seen Child-<strong>to</strong>-Child<br />

projects know how much <strong>children</strong> and their<br />

families benefit when <strong>children</strong> are <strong>in</strong>volved and<br />

trusted <strong>to</strong> help each other. This <strong>in</strong>cludes people<br />

who have used the approach <strong>in</strong> disaster and<br />

<strong>emergency</strong> <strong>situations</strong> and who have witnessed<br />

how participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> simple health activities<br />

can help <strong>to</strong> ease <strong>children</strong> out of the trauma of<br />

witness<strong>in</strong>g terrible events.<br />

Christian Children’s Fund (CCF)<br />

ccf is an <strong>in</strong>ternational organisation whose<br />

mission is <strong>to</strong> create an environment of hope<br />

and respect for needy <strong>children</strong> of all cultures<br />

and beliefs <strong>in</strong> which they have opportunities <strong>to</strong><br />

achieve their full potential. ccf provides practical<br />

<strong>to</strong>ols for positive change – <strong>to</strong> <strong>children</strong>, families<br />

and communities.<br />

ccf has responded <strong>to</strong> the needs of <strong>children</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong> war-<strong>to</strong>rn countries <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Afghanistan,<br />

Angola, East Timor, Guatemala, Liberia, Kosovo<br />

and Sierra Leone. Food distribution, re<strong>in</strong>tegration<br />

of former child soldiers and abducted <strong>children</strong>,<br />

family trac<strong>in</strong>g, psychosocial <strong>in</strong>terventions and<br />

child-centered spaces are primary examples of<br />

ccf assistance for traumatised <strong>children</strong>.<br />

International Save the Children Alliance<br />

The International Save the Children Alliance is<br />

a network of all Save the Children organisations,<br />

focus<strong>in</strong>g on pool<strong>in</strong>g resources, establish<strong>in</strong>g<br />

common policies and carry<strong>in</strong>g out jo<strong>in</strong>t projects.<br />

Save the Children focuses on support and<br />

protection for <strong>children</strong> caught up <strong>in</strong> conflict or<br />

emergencies by: a) provid<strong>in</strong>g health services and<br />

other essentials such as food, fuel and shelter <strong>to</strong><br />

the most vulnerable <strong>children</strong> and their families;<br />

b) work<strong>in</strong>g with and support<strong>in</strong>g <strong>children</strong> exposed<br />

<strong>to</strong> violence; c) work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> prevent child soldier<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and <strong>to</strong> help those who have direct experience of<br />

fight<strong>in</strong>g; d) rais<strong>in</strong>g local awareness of the short<br />

and long-term dangers of landm<strong>in</strong>es, which<br />

kill <strong>in</strong>discrim<strong>in</strong>ately – often for years after a<br />

conflict has ended; e) car<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>children</strong> who<br />

have become separated from their families and<br />

reunit<strong>in</strong>g them as quickly as possible.<br />

Action for the Rights of Children (ARC)<br />

arc is an <strong>in</strong>ter-agency <strong>in</strong>itiative, <strong>in</strong>itiated by<br />

unhcr and the International Save the Children<br />

Alliance <strong>in</strong> 1997, and jo<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> 1999 by unicef<br />

and the Office of the High Commissioner for<br />

Human Rights. As of January 2002, the coord<strong>in</strong>ation<br />

activities of the project are handled by<br />

Save the Children.<br />

Fourteen resource packs have been developed<br />

focus<strong>in</strong>g on the rights and needs of refugee and<br />
