principles of the market ec<strong>on</strong>omy <strong>and</strong> pluralistic democracy. The OECD provides<br />

its Member countries with a forum in which governments can compare their<br />

experiences, discuss the problems they share <strong>and</strong> seek soluti<strong>on</strong>s which can then be<br />

applied within their own nati<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>texts. The OECD promotes policies<br />

designed: (1) to achieve the highest sustainable ec<strong>on</strong>omic growth <strong>and</strong> employment<br />

<strong>and</strong> a rising st<strong>and</strong>ard of living in Member countries, while maintaining financial stability,<br />

<strong>and</strong> thus to c<strong>on</strong>tribute to the development of the world ec<strong>on</strong>omy; (2) to<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tribute to sound ec<strong>on</strong>omic expansi<strong>on</strong> in Member as well as n<strong>on</strong>-member countries<br />

in the process of ec<strong>on</strong>omic development; <strong>and</strong> (3) to c<strong>on</strong>tribute to the expansi<strong>on</strong><br />

of world trade <strong>on</strong> a multilateral, n<strong>on</strong>-discriminatory basis in accordance with<br />
