Competency:<br />

After completion <strong>of</strong> the course, the trained person would be<br />

able to operate Acid Treatment Bath and treatment <strong>of</strong> bivoltine<br />

silkworm eggs to produce good quality laying.<br />

6. Duration: 150 hours<br />

7. Preface: Bivoltine silkworm eggs need to be acid treated to prevent<br />

diapause. This involved usage <strong>of</strong> Hydrochloric acid (HCl) and<br />

knowledge to treat the eggs at a particular temperature and<br />

duration. Therefore, skill is need for the technician to do the<br />

acid treatment safely without damaging the eggs and person<br />

‣ Identification <strong>of</strong> diapause and nondiapause<br />

eggs.<br />

equipments used for acid treatment<br />

‣ Use <strong>of</strong> hydrochloric acid, fixing<br />

specific gravity in relation to<br />

temperature and dilution.<br />

‣ Use <strong>of</strong> hydrometer, thermometer<br />

and audio-visual timer.<br />

‣ Preparation <strong>of</strong> acid treatment bath<br />

‣ Pre-treatment <strong>of</strong> eggs sheets with<br />

2% formalin to fix eggs to sheet.<br />

‣ Hot and cold acid treatment <strong>of</strong> loose<br />

‣ Morphology and handling <strong>of</strong> eggs.<br />

‣ Importance <strong>of</strong> 2% formalin<br />

solution treatment to egg sheets.<br />
