96K Frame
Describes the digital format used with sample rates between 64 kHz and 100 kHz. Also used to
describe the special MADI format (which supports up to 32 channels at up to 96 kHz). The advantage
of this format against 48K frame using S/MUX: the receiver can detect the real (double)
sample rate on its own and immediately. With 48K Frame and S/MUX, the user has to set up
the correct sample rate in all involved devices manually.
192K Frame
Describes the digital format used with sample rates between 128 kHz and 200 kHz. The advantage
of this format against 48K frame using S/MUX: the receiver can detect the real (double)
sample rate on its own and immediately. With 48K Frame and S/MUX, the user has to set up
the correct sample rate in all involved devices manually. And wastes a lot of channels.
30.9 Connector Pinouts
The 25 pin D-sub connector provides all four AES inputs and outputs. The pinout uses the
widely spread Tascam scheme, which is also used by Digidesign.
Tascam / Digidesign:
Signal In In In In In In In In
1/2+ 1/2- 3/4+ 3/4- 5/6+ 5/6- 7/8+ 7/8-
D-Sub 24 12 10 23 21 9 7 20
Signal Out Out Out Out Out Out Out Out
1/2+ 1/2- 3/4+ 3/4- 5/6+ 5/6- 7/8+ 7/8-
D-Sub 18 6 4 17 15 3 1 14
GND is connected to pins 2, 5, 8, 11, 16, 19, 22, 25. Pin 13 is not connected.
The Yamaha pinout is quite popular as well. When building a D-sub to D-sub adapter or connection
cable, please make sure that the connectors are clearly labeled with Tascam and Yamaha.
The cable can only be used when the Tascam side is connected to a Tascam connector,
and the Yamaha side is connected to a Yamaha connector.
Yamaha:
D-Sub 5 18 6 19 7 20 8 21
GND is connected to pins 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 22, 23, 24, 25.
