licensing, knowledge transfer programs and support for entrepreneurial<br />
ventures. The department is also responsible for raising the profile of<br />
the university among business and industry and is always keen to<br />
expand their networks.<br />
Business Services Information Desk (BSID) provides a single<br />
point of access to services offered to business and the public services<br />
across the whole university, identifying the most appropriate solitions<br />
for: Research and consultancy expertise; Professional development<br />
and tailor-made courses; Opportunities for collaboration and<br />
partnership; Facilities, meeting rooms, laboratories and specialist<br />
equipment.<br />
The Collaborative Training Centre was launched on 1 November<br />
2005 to utilise the opportunity offered through the EPSRC Collaborative<br />
Training Account to grow the current level of collaborative work<br />
with local industry. The CTC currently has a central role in:<br />
• The delivery of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) across<br />
the university, managing the liaison with commercial partners,<br />
managing and writing grant funding proposals;<br />
• Managing the development and delivery of Continuing<br />
Professional Development (CPD) short courses and the<br />
MSc/MA, mainly focussed on the faculties of Science and<br />
Engineering and Management and Information Sciences;<br />
• Brokerage, management and delivery of science, technology,<br />
engineering and mathematics (STEM) outreach activities into<br />
regional schools across the STEM subjects;<br />
• Coordination and direct support of ‘industrial’ placements<br />
across the Faculty of Science and Engineering.<br />
D) On University of Brighton, enterprise representatives are<br />
involved in curricular committees on a school basis. The most<br />
cohesive Center for professional training and education is CTC, but<br />
many schools have their own activity which inhibits <strong>cooperation</strong><br />
and cohesion. University of Brighton has Business Development<br />
Managers seeking new partners and has a range of existing<br />
partners. They are moderately strong on KTP with a history of<br />
>100 partnerships. They have strengths in a number of areas of<br />
collaborative research bids. Students of University of Brighton<br />
are employed by companies and organizations of all sizes from<br />
SMEs to multinational corporations to small consultancies and<br />
government departments.<br />
The University of Brighton has a long and successful track record in<br />
the field of consultancy. Their clients include small businesses, local<br />
and national government and national and multinational firms. Projects<br />
range from 1 day to the longer term.<br />
There is mentoring and support to student entrepreneurs in the<br />
creation of student enterprises through Bee Purple. Beepurple’s<br />
main aims are to stimulate entrepreneurship amongst students, staff<br />
and alumni, and develop the enterprise skills of its members. The
