The Institute for Multidisciplinary<br />
Research (IMSI) (www.imsi.rs) is founded to<br />
combine fundamental and applied research<br />
in several complementary research fields<br />
such as materials, environmental sciences<br />
and renewable energy, aquaculture, plant<br />
biology, biophysics, neurosciences and<br />
medical engineering. The total bibliography<br />
for the past 10 years is over 350 articles in<br />
the international peer-reviewed journals and<br />
over 15 chapters in the international books.<br />
Innovation Center of Mechanical Engineering<br />
Faculty Belgrade<br />
(www.inovacionicentar.rs) was established<br />
with aim to transfer generated scientific,<br />
technical and technological knowledge into<br />
new and/or improved products, processes and<br />
services. Their trained and experienced staff<br />
and PhD students perform different kind of<br />
researcher with industry and within national<br />
technological development and innovation<br />
projects, financed by Ministry of Science.<br />
Innovation Centre of Faculty of<br />
Organizational Science (www.ic.fon.bg.ac.rs)<br />
deals with technology and knowledge transfer<br />
in domestic enterprises and industry, in the<br />
area of ICT technologies. For this purpose<br />
they use generated knowledge, professional<br />
potential and IT equipment of Faculty.<br />
Moreover, IC has <strong>cooperation</strong> agreements<br />
with two forging partners, leaders in the ICT<br />
technologies, IBM and RedHat. It provides<br />
better conditions for research and education<br />
of PhD students, as well as offer of vocational<br />
trainings for companies.<br />
Innovation Centre of the School of Electric<br />
Engineering (www.icef.etf.rs) is an organization<br />
where scientific results are applied in a<br />
systematic and original way, as well as modern<br />
technological processes in order to create<br />
innovations, new products, technologies,<br />
processes and services. This Center offers<br />
adequate facilities and working conditions to<br />
postgraduates and to the employees, working<br />
on innovation projects at ICEF.<br />
The Business & Technology Incubator (www.<br />
bitf.rs) has been established as a partnership<br />
between the four technical faculties of the<br />
University of Belgrade (Civil Engineering,<br />
Mechanical, Electrical and Technological/<br />
Metallurgical), the Municipality of Palilula<br />
and the Democratic Transition Initiative. The<br />
project has also received support from the<br />
Organization for Security and Cooperation in<br />
Europe (OSCE). The aim of the Incubators is<br />
to give support in the early stages of business<br />
development in the form of subsidized overhead<br />
(office and research space and technological<br />
and telecommunication infrastructure),<br />
administrative assistance (legal, accounting,<br />
etc.), as well as business counseling (planning,<br />
management, marketing, etc.).<br />
4.2.1.4 University of Novi Sad<br />

University of Novi Sad (UNS) is established during<br />
60-ies. It is as a center for higher education and<br />
research for the region of Vojvodina. It has often<br />
been referred to as a leader in Bologna process<br />
reforms in Serbia. University of Novi Sad has<br />
around 38 000 students and 3000 academic staff.<br />
Presently, it consists of 13 faculties. Nine faculties<br />
are located in Novi Sad (seven in one campus),<br />
two faculties are in Subotica, one is in Zrenjanin<br />
and one in Sombor (source: TEMPUS report).<br />
Novi Sad Incubation Center (NOSIC) was<br />
established in 2003, as the seed of a future<br />
Science and Technology Park and a<br />
joint venture of the Vojvodina Investment<br />
Promotion Fund, University of Novi Sad,<br />
Free Trade Zone Novi Sad and “Alma Mons”<br />
agency for SMEs development. The objectives<br />
of incubation in Novi Sad were to provide<br />
all the resources that the technology<br />
or other entrepreneur needs to build a successful<br />
business. With 44 registered entreprises<br />
(spin-offs) in high-tech areas, established<br />
by university staff or researchers at<br />
the University, NOSIC plays an essential role<br />
in the Novi Sad economic development. On<br />
the other hand, it offers a positive image<br />
of entrepreneurship, promotes business incubation<br />
concept, contributing to changing<br />
a negative attitude toward personal initiative,<br />
innovation and risk-taking.
