President of Fr. Ray Foundation, Fr.
Peter, gave a welcome speech. When
the RIS and RIST checks totalling
almost a million baht had been handed
over, both hosts and guests closed the
ceremony by jointly singing “We Are
the World.”
A tour of the houses followed.
Each was a one-storey building of 4
bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a receiving
room and a dining room/kitchen area.
Prominently displayed on the wall
of each living room was a plaque
acknowledging the donations of RIST
and RIS. Students were involved and
busy everywhere - taking pictures,
planting and watering a flower
garden, interviewing, and making
friends. Dripping with sweat in the
steaming heat of the noon-day sun,
students in mixed groups participated
enthusiastically in balloon and paper
tower games led by Ms. Alissa. It was
actually heartwarming to watch our
students mingle and bond with the shy
and awed residents of the children’s
village who eventually warmed up to
their friendly visitors.
After a simple but delicious lunch
of steamed rice, fried chicken, and
soup, and a totally refreshing drink of
iced black jelly, the visit ended with
cheers of Thank you, Goodbye, and
See you again next time. On the bus,
COMMUNITY
the students sat back comfortably
with a look of satisfaction on their
faces with lyrics of “We Are the
World” probably going round and
round in their minds:
“There comes a time when we
heed a certain call...
It’s time to lend a hand to life,
the greatest gift of all.
A change can only come when
we stand together as one.”
Next year’s project: a much-needed
soccer field for Father Ray’s
Children’s Village, perhaps…

ne of the most exciting things happening with this fundraising
Oeffort is being headed by the JC’s of the Elementary Section
of RIS. During the visit to Pattaya, JC’s were hard at work
photographing, videoing and interviewing many of the participants
for upcoming short documentaries. These mini-documentaries are
being filmed and edited by the JC’s themselves...and they will
be presenting them to their homerooms and the rest of the school
shortly.
