RIS Varsity Tennis Boys 09-10
“We’re gonna serve it! We’re gonna hit it! And we’re gonna smash it!”
NIST and ended up competing for 3 rd
place against BPS. The match against
BPS turned out to be the longest
and most grueling as the 1 st singles
players had to play for the deciding
match until the sun set. In the end,
RIS prevailed, beating BPS 3-2 and
came back with hard-earned bronze
medals.
Wthe best uniform ever, the
Varsity Boys Tennis team got off to
a promising start. The season kicked
off with over 20 players coming out
for the Varsity team. By the end
of the tryout week, the team was
narrowed down to 9 players, with 4
of these hopefuls being members the
previous year. Everybody improved
tremendously over the summer and
the new players also turned a lot
of heads. Guided by Jay, the new
coach, RIS played matches against
each other and polished their skills
in preparation for the BISAC and
SEASAC tournaments. The RIS
tennis team was a force to be reckoned
with.
At BISAC, our Phoenix boys cruised
to the semifinals, but faltered against
The SEASAC competition
at Singapore was fierce and
unfortunately we did not meet our
high expectations. The rain delays
led to us losing a medal because of
a controversial tie-breaker format.
Nonetheless, the boys fought hard
and represented RIS well. It was a
great year! I leave the team this year
with nothing but good thoughts. I
wish the tennis program all the best
in the future.
Thanks for the memories guys!
RIS Varsity Girls Tennis Team Make History
IS Phoenix girls made history
Rthis year. They won both
BISAC and SEASAC!
All seven players who played were
each awarded with the SEASAC allstar
plate for the first time in SEASAC
history. All seven players played all
their matches, making them eligible
for all-star awards.
Our reserve player didn’t play
because she would make the player
she replaces ineligible for an all-star
award. We are still very sad that she
didn’t have a chance to show her skills
when she is such a great player. We
are trying to encourage the SEASAC
committee to change this rule, giving
everybody on the team a chance to
win all-star. Nevertheless, we all
played our parts well as a team.
SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES
We made sacrifices, we worked
hard, we fought, and we won. In
the end, we are proud that we have
represented RIS well. Way to go
girls! Go Phoenix!
