Hipping and Hopping on the 4 th Floor
O n Friday April 30, the 4th floor
of ES was “hipping” and
“hopping” with music and dance as
students in Grade 5 participated in
the annual Hip-Hop Happening dance
competition. The contest (which is
open to Grade 4’s and 5’s) saw 21
groups performing in Ms. Nimfa’s
room – and while the theme was
“hip-hop,” there were certainly other
genres of music represented.
“We practiced for months,” said
Jenny (Grade 5-5), “It was very
stressful getting closer to the
deadline. Even in the weekend
before the event we practiced for
hours and hours.” Jenny’s group
“G-Bay” was comprised of herself,
Bao Bao, Baimon, Gene and Mindy.
For the Hip-Hop Happening, G-
Bay performed to the song “Falling
Down” by Selina Gomez, and ended
up placing 2 nd – missing first place by
less than 1 point.
“It was fun because we got to
participate and cooperate with people
in our group,” said Bao Bao, “It was
a great show, and we could see the
talents and abilities of all the other
dancers.”
Ms. Nimfa, the brains behind Hip-
Hop Happening was very proud of
all her dancers and said, “I was really
impressed by the amount of work
my Grade 5 students have shown
during their Hip-Hop Happening
2010. There were 20 groups all in all
and every group did their best. The
confidence, the teamwork, the energy,
the creativity, and the dynamic-funky
moves are truly amazing. I can see the
love and the passion of our students
in this highly energetic dance style. It
was fun! Congratulations Grade 5….
You all rock!”
