Newsletter Number 2 March <strong>01</strong>, 2<strong>01</strong>23 Music Association .. This week we have distributed tickets for our Gourmet Hamper Raffle to all music families. Tickets are $5.00 for a book of 5 - they will also be available on Parent Teacher Interviews to purchase, and it will be drawn on April 16th. Thank you for your support! On Monday 4th March at 7.30pm, we are having our annual General Meeting and would love to welcome any new parent along to our group. We are a fun group that helps out with all the music concerts that are held throughout the year, and enjoy fundraising to help the Music Department purchase new instruments and equipment that are much needed. We would love to see you there! Karen Carden Vice President Careers .. YEAR 12 Interviews are underway and hopefully this process will be completed by the first few weeks of Term 2. Most students have spent valuable time planning their career pathway for 2<strong>01</strong>4. In upcoming Common periods, guest speakers from several tertiary institutions will visit the college and in the last week of Term 2 all students will attend the TIS (Tertiary Information Session) at Deakin University, where they will view an expo as well as listen to a range of guest speakers about the VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) process for applications for University or TAFE for 2<strong>01</strong>4. YEAR 10 Work Experience 2<strong>01</strong>3 Another reminder to parents and students that this year’s Work Experience is from June 24th –June 28th, the last week of Term 2. Competition for quality jobs is fierce and we strongly encourage all students who have not commenced the process to decide on a type of job and put together an application. All contracts (paperwork) must be submitted as soon as possible and this year all formal placement applications will close in May. Contact Mrs Miriklis if you have any queries. MIP’s Interviews Interviews of Year 10 students have commenced and each student will have a career pathway plan mapped out by the middle of Term 2. In career focussed common periods students will be exposed to ideas and information that will equip them to make sound choices for their VCE/VCAL studies for 2<strong>01</strong>4. OTHER NEWS UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE Melbourne has its’ annual Veterinary Science and Hospital Open Day at the Werribee campus on Sunday 17 March. If you would like to find out more about studying veterinary science, then attendance is a must (details later). NOTE: The University of Melbourne is the only university in Victoria with a veterinary science degree (it’s post-graduate). D0 YOU WANT TO STUDY MEDICINE OR PHYSIOTHERAPY AT MONASH UNIVERSITY IN 2<strong>01</strong>3? If so, you will need to complete the Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admissions Test (UMAT). Applications to complete the test open in April, and close at 5pm on 7 June. The test is on 31 July. (The UMAT is required for some interstate universities as well). NOTE: the other three medical degrees at Victorian universities are all post-graduate (Melbourne, Monash (Gippsland) and Deakin (Geelong)). FOLIO PREPARATION AND CAREER DISCOVERY COURSES – RMIT runs short courses which can be useful in improving your skills, helping with career decisions and preparing you for future folio presentations. They cover areas like: architectural drawing, 3D product design, autoCAD, drawing, fashion, studio textiles, design jobs, visual/fine art, desktop publishing, graphic design, advertising, interior decoration, visual merchandising.
