VCE Season of Excellence 2012
On Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of attending the launch
of Top Screens at the ACMI. Seventeen engaging, challenging and
thoughtful short films were selected from 265 submissions for this
program. Students from VCE Media in 2011 excelled in producing
works from a range of genres and styles, including documentary,
narrative, animation and comedy. Two of the filmmakers were selected
from Ringwood Secondary College.
Sasha Mutch’s, Super Sailor Mecha Hero, animation was a spoof of
90’s Japanese cartoons, parodying general animè and the legendary
Sailor Moon. Aimed at the 90’s generation she wanted to evoke
a warm hearted nostalgia for our childhood.

Zoe Blain’s, These Hands, animation conveyed a visual interpretation
of the lyrics and imagery in WHY’s song These Hands. She applied
a raw, fragmented and simplistic visual style through use of
stop motion animation techniques. The clip explored themes of injury,
ignorance, identity, corruption, and exposure and their effects
on youth and modern society.

We congratulate both filmmakers on their creativity, ingenuity and
outstanding work.
2012 State Schools Spectatcular
In recent days, the college has been advised that three of our students
have been selected for key roles in this year’s State School’s
Spectacular- a performance of music, song, dance and circus arts.
Congratulations are extended to Elisha Dana on being selected
as an orchestra member and Matilda Edwards and Hannah
MaCaulay as featured dancers.
College Production 2012
The 2012 musical production has been announced. Following
weeks of anticipation and an exiting launch earlier in the week,
this year we will be performing CHICAGO. This is a new production
for the RSC stable and promises to be a great show when it
is staged in August.
Gonski Report
The long-awaited Gonski review into Australian schools funding
was released on Monday February 20. Most organisations, with
an interest in the report, have welcomed its recommendations,
but at this stage the devil is in the detail of how the recommendations
will be implemented.
From Mrs Stathatos ...
MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
How time flies! Four weeks into the year and our students have settled
into the routine of school life. It is with great pride that I noticed
at the last combined form assembly that every student in Year 10
was properly attired. The respectful attitude students have towards
the school begins with the way they wear their uniform. Just a reminder
that white socks with summer uniform and t bars buckled
are to be worn by girls and polo tops without t-shirts are to be worn
by boys. Details of the college uniform are to be found on page 10
of the college diary.
The fence along Hill Street is designed to increase security around
the college and students are reminded to stay within school
grounds at all times. A quick whizz around classes highlighted how
well students are applying themselves to their learning. Parents are
encouraged to take an interest in their children’s homework. The
following times are advised for study each week: Year 9 and 10 –
60-90 minutes. Please refer to the Work Submissions Policy in the
college diary for guidelines around the responsibility of student
work submission practices. This policy is located on page 8 of the
college diary.
The report includes 41 recommendations for change to the education
funding for all government and non-government schools.
The Federal Government has not committed to any of its recommendations
and is moving to a new round of consultation with
State Governments, schools and the community.
The bottom line, is that we still don’t know how recommendations
will impact on government funding to Ringwood Secondary College.
It is impossible to understand the impact of the report on
the Ringwood Secondary College community without knowing
which recommendations both levels of government will adopt.
More details on the report’s implications for the College will follow
in the future. To access the full Gonski report, go to www.
schoolfunding.gov.au and click on the ‘Read the Reports’ link.
A reminder- Personal Goods Brought to School at Owner’s Risk
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development
does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools
and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.
This includes items such as mobile phones.
Careers at Middle School was in focus this week as Mrs Allison spoke
to the Year 10s about the process. We invite students to arrange
their own work experience placements and information will be
given to them about the process shortly. Students were also given
information on the end of year trip to Queensland. If anyone missed
the information sheet they are encouraged to pick up a copy from
the office.
Finally, students should consider the Leadership opportunities provided
to them at Middle School. It is often at this stage that they hit
their straps and shine and Middle school students should always
aim to shine.
PCTA
It is with great excitement that the members of the PCTA met last
week to establish priorities and work on the up and coming Debutante
ball. Rehearsals for the Deb ball are going well. Committee
members are working hard to make this event a great experience
for students and their families.
Prefects Induction 2012
In keeping with past traditions the prefects’ Induction program
was recently staged in front of an audience of parents, friends,
Year 7 and Year 12 students. Dr Dean Cowie, a former student reflected
on his time at Ringwood and the many positive experiences.
He also provided all of the students in the audience some
advice about preparing for the future. The response of our Head
Prefects in Emily Treeby and Alex Pezzimenti indicated that their
leadership and that of all our Prefects will once again be important
and significant in 2012.
JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS
Achieving Your Personal Best
As the weeks progress it has
been a delight to see the junior
students, in particular those
starting Year 7, settling into the
routine of school life and showing
a positive attitude and work
ethic to their classroom studies.
I have visited several classrooms
of late and students are enjoying
using their iPads to complete a range of tasks. The portability of
the device also fosters creativity and learning
beyond the traditional classroom, complementing
the work that students are completing
in their subject exercise books.
The theme of Junior School this year is:
‘Achieving Your Personal Best’ and we are
supporting students’ efforts by providing a
seminar on Time Management, early in Term
2, for all Year 7 and 8 students. The seminar,
which complements the study skills session
at the Year 7 Wellbeing day, will assist
students to develop skills to manage their
time effectively throughout the year. The
one-hour session will cover how to: develop
a study routine, get homework completed
on time, manage deadlines and revise for tests effectively. A letter
will be sent home to parents in the near
future and will outline the program in
more detail.
Parent Comments:
• “I have enjoyed receiving these emails, as you are probably aware
some children don’t pass on information.”
• “Love being kept informed! It’s a fantastic idea.”
• “Thank you for the general update it is greatly appreciated. … has
been selected in the Year 8 cricket side so is excited about that and will
be trying out for Senior Production again.”
• “Thank you for introducing yourself. Email is such a great way of
keeping in touch with what is going on at school.”
• “Thank you so much Allison, appreciate being kept up to date, it helps.
Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you also.”
Many thanks to the Junior School team for all the work they do to
ensure that Year 7 and 8 students experience a positive start to the
year.
PROGRESS REPORTS
Please note that teachers will be preparing Progress Reports for all
students in Years 7-12 in the coming weeks. Following distribution
of the reports, the college will run two sessions for Parent/Teacher
interviews which will operate between 2.30 pm and 6.30 pm. On
both days, there will be four shortened periods and all students will
be dismissed at 1.00 pm.
Parents will be able to arrange meeting times with their child’s
teachers using the RSC PTI (Parent Teacher Interviews) online booking
system being introduced this year. More information about the
process for doing this will be communicated shortly.
Progress Reports distributed
Friday, 30 March (end of day)
Parent/Teacher interviews
Years 10-12 - Thursday, 29 March
Years 7-9 - Wednesday, 18 April
To assist students with their learning,
Year 7 and 8 teachers will be emailing
parents to advise them of major subject
based requirements and other class
information. Parents will also be able
to easily contact the teacher and we
anticipate that the improved school/
home communication will further encourage
good working relationships
between parents, teachers and students
and improved student learning outcomes. It is anticipated that all
distribution lists will be operational over the next 2 weeks and we
thank parents for their patience during the roll out of this initiative.
Ms Kenins, 7B’s maths teacher, has received many positive comments
from parents, some of
which are written below. It is
great to see how improved
communication can lead to
building connectedness between
home and school.
As always, we strongly recommend that parents take this opportunity
to meet with their child’s teachers to find out how they are
progressing.
YEARS 7 AND 9 NAPLAN TESTING
All Year 7 and 9 students will be participating in the NAPLAN (National
Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy). The tests
will be held on 15, 16 and 17 May. The NAPLAN will assist teachers
to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses in Literacy and Numeracy
and enable them to adjust teaching strategies to provide
appropriate support.
evening. A range of activities including basic carpentry, watering,
weeding, pruning, mulching and planting should provide
something for everyone. We roster our working bees to spread
the load and ask parents to attend at least one for the year. Students
from all A and B forms will be provided with an information
page, ie. 7A, 7B, 8A, 8B, …..12A, 12B over the next couple
of weeks. Please make every effort to come along. Parents from
other forms are always welcome. We have made tremendous
inroads over recent years on improving the college grounds
and with everyone making a small contribution we can continue
to improve the teaching and learning environment
From Mr Salisbury ...
It’s easy to take for granted, but the pleasant tone and positive atmosphere
amongst students and staff makes working at Ringwood Secondary
so enjoyable. How fortunate we are!
The serious learning is now underway and students need to ensure all
set work is being completed to the best of their ability. Falling behind
and not submitting work should not be an option under any circumstances.
Students need to be organised, use their diary and implement
a regular homework pattern. For students who do not complete set
work, they can expect involvement in our recently introduced ‘Catch
Up Detention’ program. As parents, if you think your child is falling
behind, make sure you contact the relevant Community Coordinators
to discuss the situation.
SOME OTHER KEY POINTS/REMINDERS
• Pastoral Care: The first extended form assembly dedicated to pastoral
care was held on Wed 22 February. It was highly successful and
students approached the content with maturity and thought. These
extended form assemblies are supplemented by the recently introduced
Year 8 and 10 program that is moving into full swing. Attendance
checks, which are part of the program, are soon to be introduced
and will subsequently occur every fortnight.
• Professional Development Program: As part of our Staff Professional
Development Program, 2012, all staff are undertaking
professional reading each term from the highly acclaimed
book, Teach like a champion, by Doug Lemov. All staff members
were presented with a personal copy of the book and we
look forward to implementing many of the detailed techniques
into our daily teaching.
Mrs. Maassen receives her
‘Teach Like A Champion’
book from Mr. Phillips.
• Uniform: Thank-you to parents who support the college by ensuring
students are in full college uniform-it’s really appreciated. A small
number of boys are wearing T shirts beneath polo tops. Almost all are
doing the right thing and our newly introduced Uniform Detention is
proving to be an excellent deterrent.
Mr C. Salisbury
Assistant Principal
• Emergency Evacuation Drill: In the near future the college will conduct
and Emergency Evacuation Drill to practice important routines
and test out the workings of the new attendance package.
• Heritage: Completing 31 years at Ringwood Secondary has qualified
me for taking over the reigns of the hard working Heritage committee
from Mrs Ward who is of course on Long Service Leave. The first meeting
was quite exciting, planning celebrations for the college’s 60th anniversary
in 2014. One highlight as you have probably heard, will be
the construction of the bollards around the school. Each bollard will
capture snippets of college history and families will be able to have
their names engraved on stainless steel. The Heritage members have
tremendous passion for the history of the school and much work has
gone into capturing and archiving a wonderful array of material. The
Heritage room was recently tidied and we look forward to additional
resources courtesy of the Ringwood Historic Society.
• Litter program: Our litter program is up and running and the effects
are obvious to all. What a pity 10-20% of our student body continue to
litter! Their actions are selfish and totally antisocial.
• Facilities Committee: On Thursday 24th February, our highly dedicated
Facilities Committee met for the first time this year and commenced
planning for college improvement. Our major objective will be the
concreting of the Hub and the creation of an outdoor learning centre.
Many other exciting projects were discussed and any parent interested
in joining this dynamic group should contact Mr Salisbury. Meetings
occur once a term to plan improvements and all are welcome.
• Working Bee Friday 2nd March: Our first College Working Bee is
scheduled for Friday, 2nd March. It is a twilight working bee running
from 5.00pm to 7.30pm. Drinks and supper will be supplied during the
School Council Report
Ringwood Secondary College School Council met for the first
time in the 2012 School Year in early February. After welcoming
the Council Members to the meeting, Principal Phillips informed
Council of the 2011 VCE results – an excellent outcome
and reflective of the hard work and dedication of RSC teachers
and students alike. The School Council would like to pass on
its congratulations to the 2011 Year 12 students and appreciation
to the Year 11 & 12 Faculty for the quality teaching they
provided.
School Council elections will be held in the coming month, and
parents are encouraged to talk with Principal Phillips if they are
interested in being a part of Council activities in 2012.
There was much discussion regarding the intake of students to
the RTTF – considerable work has been done by the RTTF staff
in developing new courses and informing students of RSC and
other outer eastern schools of the opportunities the RTTF offers.
This has resulted in the largest enrolment in RTTF courses
since it opened. Congratulations RTTF!
Council received reports from the various sub committees and
parent organizations which do so much for the school. These
various subcommittees do much for the school, from raising
funds for the music program, to undertaking capital works
around to school. If anyone is interested in joining any of the
committees or volunteer organizations, please have a chat with
the staff in the Administration office.
Page 5
Newsletter Number 2 March 02, 2012
Council discussed the pending Federal Government Gonski Report
on funding for public schools, and urges the school community to
support the National Bus Tour for Public Education when it comes
to Deakin Electorate. This is your opportunity to influence the
outcome of the report and hopefully see public schools such as
Ringwood Secondary College, receive additional and appropriate
funding to enable our teachers to provide an even more excellent
educational experience to our children.
Council reviewed and approved the school’s budget for the 2012
school year, noting that without the revenue raised by school fees,
the quality, range and scope of subjects and activities would be
markedly diminished. The Council thanks those families who have
paid their fees for 2012 and would like to remind the school community
to return their payment forms to the Admin Office over the
next few weeks.
Finally, the Council thanked the Council President, Mr Ian Henry, for
his years of service to the school community. Mr Henry has been
School Council President for the past two years, and a Council
member for several years prior to that. With his last child having
completed Year 12 in 2011, enrolment of the current generation of
the Henry family at RSC comes to an end. Mr Henry will be finishing
his tenure as President in April this year.
LOTE
Welcome to the new year. I hope old and new students and staff
have all had a wonderfully relaxing holiday and are now in working
mode and ready to embrace a new year of learning, challenges and
new friendships.
In the French area, we welcome two new staff to our team who are
equipped with talent and enthusiasm, Ms Annie van Eeden and Mrs
Julie Gleeson. This is a terrific expansion to our faculty and a refreshing
start for us all.
I wish them well for the year. I would also like to welcome back other
members of staff, Mrs Eleni Stathatos, Ms Simone Hobbs and Ms
Virginia Martin (Indonesian teacher).
We hope that this year is a successful time for all students with the
iPads in full swing and a few incursions/excursions to be announced
as the year rolls on. Any LOTE enquiries can be directed to me by
phone or email, at rdevereux@ringwoodsc.vic.edu.au
I look forward to all the rewards that learning a foreign language
can bring! Help us to “open the door to a bigger world” for our students.
RSC Classical Odyssey 2011
At the end of 2011, 17 students and
four staff were lucky enough to head
overseas on the trip of a lifetime to
visit Greece and Italy. Over a period of
almost three weeks the group visited
such places as Athens, Delphi, Olympia,
Kalambaka, Nafplion, Mycenae,
Naples, Sorrento, Florence, Rome and
Venice. The Odyssey tour provided an
opportunity for students to consolidate
their learning about ancient cultures,
whilst experiencing some of the
most amazing historical sites. Students
were also able to get a taste the modern day world of these two
very amazing places.
The Odyssey tour will run again in 2014 and is open to all RSC students.
We have attached a collection of photos from the trip at the
back of this newsletter,
As the comments of two members of our tour group show, it is a
trip well worth saving for!!
Our trip to Greece and Italy is one I will never forget. We experienced
things that most other teenagers haven’t and it was such a great opportunity
for meeting new people, and learning about different culture.
We started off on our trip in magnificent Greece before heading
on to gorgeous Italy. The sights I saw were almost unbelievable! The
Acropolis & Parthenon, the leaning tower of Pisa, the Colosseum, the
Trevi fountain, Pompeii, Olympia, The Vatican City, Venice, it was all
so wonderful! It’s definitely hard to choose even the top ten highlights,
as there were so many, but a big highlight for me was Venice. Just the
feeling of actually being there and seeing it first hand was incredible.
Overall the trip was amazing and one that will always be remembered!
Holly Bluhm, Year 10
Being flown to arguable the 2 most amazing countries on earth was
definitely an incredible experience that I will remember for the rest of
my life. The whole trip and everywhere we went (except Naples) was
truly awe-inspiring. Standing in front of the Parthenon in the centre of
the ancient super power, Athens to the heart of the ancient Colosseum
and everything in between was an experience to remember. There were
so many highlights; the sunrise walk on the beach in Tolo, strolling
along the peaceful streets of Athens, driving through the mountainous
Greek country side, eating pizza from its true home and most of all,
riding a gondola down the Grand Canal on a cold sunny morning in
Venezia. Whenever I see the many souvenirs in my room, or photos on
my school folders, I think, “take me back now”.
On Friday 17th, we farewelled Mrs Sjnelle Jordan who leaves us to
go on maternity leave. She has been a great asset to the LOTE faculty
over the years and we wish her well in her new venture as a
mother and parent.
PAPERLESS CLASSROOMS
HAVE ARRIVED!!!
During Teacher Professional
Leave in 2011, Ms Keren
Stephens developed a ‘paperless
folio’ template for the Year 7
Textiles subject. Students working
in her Design and Technology
(Textiles) class in Semester
Newsletter Number 2 March 02, 2012
1 this year will be completing
their entire Folio work using
their iPads. We believe this may
be the first ‘paperless folio’ of
its type to be used in schools in
Victoria.
a position of employment by the end of Term 1. Contact Mrs Allison
if you have any queries. Students are reminded that they also
need to have completed the safe@work modules for Occupational
Health and Safety. Work placement is not possible without these
completed tests.
The ‘Paperless Folio’ will showcase
the student’s design work
as well as investigations related
to each topic. All research work
will be recorded on the iPad in their Textiles Folio. Their production
work will be photographed at each stage with images inserted in
the folio so the teacher can monitor student progress. A photograph
of the final product will also be inserted into the folio as a
record of their achievements in Textiles during 2012. This will give
a permanent record of each
student’s achievement that will
long outlive the product they
created. Self-evaluation relating
to their progress along the
way will also be recorded and
stored for future reference.
Ms Stephens said, “This is a
wonderful use of new technology.
All students, whatever their
ability, will be able to use iPad Apps and Google to search the world
for input to create designs that would not be possible using traditional
methods.” She also noted that the introduction of the ‘Paperless
Folio’ has allowed work to be more efficient in the classroom.
No more handing out of class copies of work sheets - students can
quickly and efficiently tap the required pages needed for the topic
they are studying. The ‘Paperless Folio’ allows for savings on paper,
and storage of the folio for historical reference will be easier and
more compact. The ‘Paperless Folio’ is Textiles contribution to the
college’s work on sustainable practice.
Careers
INTERVIEWING OF THE YEAR 12’S IS UNDERWAY!
In a recent Year 12 Common period all students received a careers
bulletin that outlined details of the careers program for 2012. We
are looking forward to working with this enthusiastic group of students.
Individual pathway plans are a priority and if any students
need extra assistance they can call into the careers room at any
time for assistance. Parents are also encouraged to assist their son
or daughter to research career options and support their career decision
making. Do not hesitate to contact the college careers counsellors
if you wish to discuss any matters.
YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE
A reminder to parents and students that this year’s Work Experience
is from June 25th to June 29th, the last week of Term 2. Competition
for quality jobs is fierce and we strongly encourage all students
who have not commenced the process to decide on a type of
job and put together an application as soon as possible. The early
bird catches the worm and we would love every student to secure
MIP’S INTERVIEWS
Interviews of Year 10 students have commenced and each student
will hopefully have a career pathway plan mapped out by the end
module that will equip them to make sound choices for their VCE/
VCAL studies for 2013.
We warmly welcome Mr Mike Hilt and Mr David Blythman who will
be conducting the MIP’s interviews during 2012, as well as supporting
staff in other ways in the careers office.
FOLIO PREPARATION AND CAREER DISCOVERY COURSES
Many design courses at university and TAFE require applicants to
present a folio of their work as part of the application process for
their courses. They want to find out about your ability and creativity.
If you think you could use some assistance with your folio you
might want to consider RMIT short courses. Some of these are held
in the evening and some in school holidays, covering things like AutoCAD
- QuickStart, drawing techniques, folio preparation in fash-
to third place on 344 points. We hope to see a strong comeback
from this team in the other carnivals this year.
The final events featured some fiercely contested relays involving
Year 7 and 8 students, with the traditional staff versus student relay
being held for the first time in the lunch break. In a big upset, the
staff team reigned supreme
with a come-from-behind
victory to topple a fierce student
team. Controversially a
student protest regarding dubious
relay changes and the
use of performance enhancing
equipment by the staff
team was quickly dismissed.
Congratulations to Mr Johnson,
Mr Morton, Ms Asbury
Carnival was a great day, with
a fantastic turn out of students
competing across all
heats in the 50 metre freestyle
and backstroke events,
while the Year 9’s and 10’s maintained a great level of competition
throughout the day. The performance of our new Year 7 students
was exciting and we look forward to seeing many of them in action
at the Division Carnival.
At the end of the day, Woorkarrim
House (Blue) finished as
the premier house on 480
the Ringwood Pool where our team will be aiming to win its 20th
successive swimming championship. Once the team is finalised
training will commence for our swimming team on Tuesday and
Thursday nights after school in the lead up to the District carnival.
Parents are most welcome to attend the Disivion swimming day on
the 9th of March at Ringwood Aquatic Centre to support the team.
A big thank you to the students for their enthusiasm and participation
throughout the day and to the staff who worked tirelessly in
the many jobs required to make the day such a successful one.
SPORTS DAY EXPECTATIONS
A reminder to parents and students that school sports days, such as
the Swimming and Athletics carnival days, are conducted as normal
SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY – 30TH MARCH
In conjunction with the school cross country on the 30th March this
term we will be holding an adidas School Fun-Run as a major fundraising
event this year.
The adidas School Fun-Run is a healthy, fun and active fundraiser
that ensures we send the right message to our students about getting
active, having fun and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The main
focus of this event is on participation. Family support is most appreciated
as we encourage all students to get involved.
In the coming week all Year 7 and 8 students will receive a Sponsorship
Form to help collect sponsorship on behalf of the school. Any
older student who wishes to raise funds should see Mr Simkin or Mr
Craig for a sponsorship form.
We ask all parents to read the Sponsorship Form and sign the front
page to grant permission for their child to fundraise and participate
in this event. Students who raise just $10 or more will receive a
reward for effort. In the Sponsorship Form you will also find many
other benefits like the chance to win a family holiday in Disneyland!
Students wanting to train for our event and to receive advice from
sporting heroes like Scott Prince, Dale Thomas, Sally Pearson and
other elite adidas athletes can do so by logging onto schoolfunrun.
com.au/students and clicking create a profile. Students who register
will be in the running to WIN a Nintendo Wii and bonus Wii Fit
Plus!
Thank you, good luck and happy fundraising!
PRODUCTION
If everything has gone according to plan, then this year’s production
has been announced and the path towards auditioning has
opened up before us. If that hasn’t happened, then something has
gone a fraction wrong but I’m sure it’s fixable. I choose to proceed
on the assumption that the happy story has prevailed.
Auditions for the production are open to all students in the college
and must be booked via the Production Coordinator, Mrs Stelfox.
The audition dates are:
Tuesday March 6 or Wednesday March 7
I particularly encourage Year 12 students who have always wanted
to have a crack, but never got around to it, to consider rolling the
dice in their final year. Talk to your mates about how much fun it is.
Further details about commitments and dates will be distributed
at the auditions.
There are also opportunities for involvement in areas other than
cast and details about how to take these up will be released during
Term 2.
WORLD TOUR 2013
The itinerary is starting to take shape and this tour, getting underway
in just over one year’s time, is looking particularly actionpacked
and exciting.
I remind everyone that there is a student information lunchtime
session on Thursday March 8 in the hall. There will then be an
evening information session and launch for all interested students
and parents in the Hall at 7pm on Tuesday March 13. All information
that is currently to hand will be presented and we will also hear
from our licensed travel agent.
First Aid
IMMUNISATIONS:
Loretta Yost
RTTF Admin
In accordance with Department of Health guideline, Maroondah
City Council’s Immunisation team will be visiting the school to provide
immunisations to students in years 7 and 10.
This is the schedule detailed below:
Term One - First Visit
29th March 2012
Year 7 Hep B (1st dose) & HPV*(1St dose)

Step 4: Look on the tissue and on the comb for lice and eggs.
Step 5: Repeat combing for every part of the head at least 4 or 5
times.
If lice or eggs are found the child’s hair should be treated. Purchase
head lice treatment products from your local chemist and the product
must be applied to all parts of the hair and scalp.
No treatment kills all of the eggs so treatment must involve two applications,
seven days apart. The purpose of the first treatment is to
kill all lice, the second treatment is to kill young lice hatched over
the next six days. There is no product available to prevent head lice
but tying back long hair can help prevent the spread.
For further information see website: www.health.vic.gov.au/headlice
Shirley McInnes and Nancy Davies
Term Two - Second Visit
19th June 2012
Year 7 HPV*(2nd dose) & Chicken Pox
Year 10 Diphtheria Tetanus & Pertussis (Boostrix)
Term Four - Third Visit
16th October 2012
Year 7 Hep B (2nd dose) & HPV (3rd dose)
*HPV (Human Papilloma Vaccine) is given to only female students
in Year 7.
Immunisation cards have been distributed to all year 7 and 10 students
in form assemblies. If your child has not received one please
ask them to ask their form teacher for one or come to First Aid to
get one.
The council immunisation team would like all students to wear their
sports uniform on the day of the immunisations.
If you have any queries regarding school immunisation please contact
Maroondah City Council on 1300 88 22 33
ALL cards must be returned to the college whether your child is being
immunised or not, we MUST get a card registering your preference.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
HEAD LICE
There have been several reported cases of head lice throughout
various year levels. Please check your child’s hair regularly and
if head lice or eggs are found, treat appropriately. Health regulations
require that where a child has head lice that the child should
not return to school until the day after appropriate treatment has
started.
Finding head lice:
Step 1: Comb any type of hair conditioner on to dry, brushed hair.
Step 2: Now comb sections of hair with a fine tooth head lice comb
Step 3: Wipe the conditioner from the comb onto a paper towel or
tissue.
The Year 12 Parent & Student Night with
Dr Michael Carr – Gregg, February 21 st .
The night was again a very animated and informative
evening with practical advice given to both parents and
students for ‘Surviving the VCE’.
Approximately 600 students, parents & teachers attended the
presentation at Deakin University – Burwood Campus.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many positive
comments from participants. Some include:
• This session was a fantastic reinforcement of the positive
