Newsletter Number 2 March 4, 2011 Music Association EASTER RAFFLE This year the Music Association is again running an Easter Raffle to raise funds for our Music department. Last year, we proudly donated $8000 to the department to purchase much needed equipment. Our thanks to all the families who helped support this. Tickets will be sent home with each Music Family and if you would like to contribute an item towards the hampers - either easter related or not - please hand it in at the General office. Tickets are also available to purchase from the front office where we have a small display of the prizes, and it will be drawn on the evening of Thursday April 7th and winners will be notified. Tickets are $1.00 each Our AGM is on Monday 21st March and we would welcome any new faces to join our group. We are a small but productive group that have a lot of fun. Please phone Mrs Julie Hughes, Assistant Principal, if you would like any further information Karen Carden The Sports Pages SENIOR ROUND ROBIN Senior students participated in the summer round of Maroondah Division sport on Monday the 15th of February. The boys and girls tennis teams were comfortable winners on the day, with the boys winning easily and the girls also getting through to Region finals. The softball team also won both games very easily and employed some great team tactics. The girls volleyball team dominated and also went through the day undefeated, whilst the boys managed to win 3 out of 5 games. The baseball team were unlucky to miss the win they needed to get through, while the boys cricket team also played well and were solid contenders, but narrowly missed out on progressing through to the next round. swimming, sprinting and boarding, as well as some very sore arms by the end of the day! Both teams performed very well on the day, especially given many students hadn’t been involved in Life saving sports before. Some of the highlights included Khy Blizzard’s 3rd placing, Tristan Blizzards 2nd placing and Aaron Bentall’s 3rd placing in their age groups Run Swim Run events. Josh Edwards finished 2nd in the Intermediate Beach sprint, with Abby Couper also showing plenty of dash finishing 3rd in the girls final. Well done to all students involved, hopefully we can build on this year’s performance next year. UPCOMING DATES 10th March Division Swimming 25th March Intermediate Summer Round 28th March Eastern Region Swimming at MSAC 31st March Ringwood Cross Country Kyle Simkin and Amy Malander Sports Coordinator and AFL Sports Trainee First Aid In accordance with Department of Health guideline, Maroondah City Council’s Immunisation team will be visiting the school to provide immunisations to students in years 7 and 10. This is the schedule detailed below: The remaining dates for summer sport are Intermediate: March 25th, Year 8: April 6th and Year 7: April 1st. The Ringwood Cross Country, which will be held on Thursday the 31st of March, is also approaching fast. Time to get the runners out and start training for those keen to perform well. DIVISION SWIMMING Training continues for our swimming team on Monday and Thursday nights after school in the lead up to the Division carnival. As usual parents/guardians are most welcome to attend and show their support on the competition day on March 10th at Ringwood Aquatic Centre. SURF LIFE SAVING LEAGUE On February 24th Ringwood entered their first ever Male and Female Surf League teams. The competition was run by Lifesaving Victoria at Pt Leo and involved *HPV (Human Papilloma Vaccine) is given to only female students in Year 7. Immunisation cards have been distributed to all year 7 and 10 students in form assemblies. If your child has not received one please ask them to ask their form teacher for one or come to First Aid to get one. The council immunisation team would like all students to wear their sports uniform on the day of the immunisations. If you have any queries regarding school immunisation please contact Maroondah City Council on 1300 88 22 33 ALL cards must be returned to the college whether your child is being immunised or not, we MUST a card registering your preference.
