Rhomberg staff seen at the rear taking a look at provocative art objects: Antony Gormley’s ‘Allotment’ shows shapes of bodies that are falling or being
dropped and which form a chaotic field of hopelessness.
Art and culture in buildings
2009 – a turbulent year
The heavyweight objects ‘Body’
and ‘Fruit’, which are suspended
just a few centimetres off the floor
on the ground floor of the KUB,
are part of Gormley’s ‘Expansions’
series.
Just as it always was: the price of gold at an all-time high, property, gold, art. Bregenz
has a new ‘Molo’, Linz is the cultural capital of Europe and hence worth a trip, the
Danube and the power of the mountains – simply different, great. This year again we
were able to welcome fantastic exhibition events: ‘Raw Material Snow’ at the Landesmuseum
in Vorarlberg and Antony Gormley at the Kunsthaus in Bregenz. He wants
to create further works in public spaces in Vorarlberg, he also wants to see Aida at
the Festspielbühne and live transmissions on TV to bring our small Bregenz back into
the limelight. The Landesmuseum Voralberg will close for the conversion works to be
carried out by the architects Cukrowicz Nachbaur. We hope that our cultural interests
will have a positive impact on the placing of contracts.
It seems that we have had a change of generations in the cultural establishments
of Bregenz: Yilmaz Dziewior, Director of the Kunsthaus Bregenz, was born on 24
October 1964 in Bonn and is an art historian. He was Director of the Kunstverein in
Hamburg from 2001 to 2008. In parallel, he taught as Professor of Art Theory at the
Hochschule der Bildenden Künste in Hamburg from 2003 to 2009. The forty-yearold
director Alexander Kubelka will be the new theatre director of the Landestheater
in Bregenz, Vorarlberg. Kubelka was able to convince the interview committee with an
innovative theatre concept and was selected over the other 55 applicants from the
entire German-speaking region. In recent years this Carinthian has been directing at
the Schauspielhaus Graz, the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the Wiener Volkstheater,
amongst others.
The Rhomberg Group has its head offices in Bregenz – we live here in a small
paradise and really appreciate the fact. I would like to take this opportunity to thank
the management and Rhomberg family who, despite difficult times, have continued to
make cultural and sustainability concerns a high priority and thereby are strengthening
the name of Rhomberg through its association with cultural interests.
In this spirit, take time, time for yourselves, then one is rarely alone.
