A clever combination of working and living
‘lineAAR’ development in the centre of Aarau, Switzerland
The development comprises 48 apartments,
space for service and retail
businesses as well as an underground
car park. At the heart of the property
is an attractive inner courtyard which
forms the centre of this perimeter
block development. The facade design
underscores the homogeneous
appearance of the building structure.
Rhomberg Bau AG is the design and build contractor for the ‘lineAAR’ commercial
and residential development in the city centre of Aarau.
Rhomberg has been contracted as
design and build contractor for the
‘lineAAR’ commercial and residential
development in the city centre of
Aarau near the railway station. Demolition
work began in August 2009 and
the groundbreaking ceremony has
taken place.
The project was the winning entry of
an investor competition and was developed
by Rhomberg Bau AG in collaboration
with architects Dietrich Untertrifaller.
The solution has tremendous
appeal. It expertly meets all relevant
requirements and makes maximum
use of the site in the city centre.
The design of the project took architectural,
ecological and social aspects
into consideration. It will be built to
Minergie-standard and completion
has been scheduled for the summer
of 2011.

A new neighbourhood in Bern, Switzerland
Residential development in Bern-Brünnen, site No. 10
“The development in Bern-Brünnen, including
site No. 10, is a positive example of a design
that combines traditional and new aspects” –
these were the words of praise of City of Bern
President, Alexander Tschäppät.
A new neighbourhood with about
800 apartments for rent and sale is
being developed in Bern-Brünnen
over the next few years. On behalf of
the Publica Pension Fund, Rhomberg
is acting as design and build contractor
for the development of 47 rental
properties by February/March 2010.
The Westside shopping centre, which
is in close proximity to the project, was
also constructed by Rhomberg. This
development comprises two four-storey
apartment blocks with commercial
space and an underground car park.
The two blocks run parallel to each
other on both sides of a courtyard,
which is open to one side, and are
adapted to the contours of the sloping
terrain. The apartments appeal through
their generous and modern design layout.
Some of the living-rooms are one
and a half storeys high. These features
give the apartments a ‘loft’ feel.
