THE FOUR TRENCHLESS PIPE
INSTALLATION TECHNOLOGIES
Pipe bursting This method can be used to renew
an existing pipe with a new one in one go.
A machine will pull the new pipe through the old
one, using a chain consisting of a series of steel
rods. Simultaneously the old pipe is burst with
the help of a special attachment and pushed
into the adjoining earth. Berstlining is suitable
for pipes of up to 70 cm diameter.
Press drilling A press drill machine can be
used to install pipes of up to 60 cm diameter.
In this process steel pipes are pressed into
the subsoil using a special device. At the same
time, the spoil is removed and conveyed backwards
with the help of a drill head.

Bahntechnik AG has optimally
supplemented its range of services.
The company from Amriswil in Thurgau,
Switzerland specialises in track
construction, cable installation as well
as trenchless pipe installation.
Together with mechanical engineers
numerous tools were developed and
the processes optimised. In trenchless
installations the surface remains
largely intact, construction times are
significantly reduced and substantial
cost savings are made. Rhomberg
customers can now also benefit from
this service.
Pipe ramming This method can be used to lay
pipes of up to 2 m in diameter. In this process
the pipes are rammed through the soil using a
compressed air drive hammer. The steel pipes
are installed in stages, and welded. After drilling,
the soil core is flushed out with water or air.
Moling technology This technology can be
used to install pipes with diameters of up to 16
centimetres. A standard building compressor is
used to propel the mole into a certain direction,
starting from a relatively small dug out pit. This
makes it possible to install service and disposal
pipes underground with great accuracy.
