homes of tomorrow.
That’s how we secure pole position
in housebuilding: For more than three
years now, our “racing team” has been
successfully constructing multistorey
residential projects to Passivhaus
standards. The optimised building
envelope, heat recovery from exhaust
air and the passive use of solar energy
reduce heating oil consumption and
consequentially lower heating energy
costs.
This successful practical implementation
has brought us expertise and
experience in the field of heat-energyoptimised
buildings. The low-energy
residential units of the social housing
organisation Salzburger Wohnbaugesellschaft
right next to Salzburg
main railway station have been occupied
since the beginning of the year.
With 104 apartments, each one with
convenient dwelling ventilation, this is
one of the largest low-energy buildings
in Salzburg.
The start of summer saw 50 Passivhaus
dwellings handed over to tenants
of Alpenländische Heimstätte in
Bregenz. In this project, a semicentral
ventilation system was used: air
prewarming and heat recovery are
centralised, while user-oriented air
flow control is performed locally. This
ensures a smooth “pit-stop” with
optimised operating and maintenance
costs.

On the finishing straight is Block A on
the Sandgrubenweg housing estate
in Bregenz, which has been built to
Passiv haus standards in accordance
with the Vorarlberg’s state building
regulations. Here the innovative results
of the research project “inkl.wohnen”
were augmented with the comfort
and convenience of Passivhaus living
to offer an extraordinary indoor
environment quality. The other blocks
in Sandgrubenweg have been designed
as low-energy buildings. Now
the calculated energy savings can be
compared to the actual consumption
figures.
In the Alpenländische Heimstätte
project in Bregenz with its 74 housing
units, we are building what is the largest
residential development to Passivhaus
standards currently under way
in Vorarlberg. In addition to benefiting
from the ventilation with heat recovery
systems normally found in Passivhaus
designs, residents in this development
can also separately regulate the
temperatures of each room through
the underfloor heating using special
convenience controllers.
The latest technologies and continuous
innovation within a strict set of
rules – that does not just describe
Formula 1, it also applies to building
the homes of the future. And perhaps
Formula 1 will accomplish something
we have already achieved: dispensing
with oil as a source of energy.
