RK safetec first to offer comprehensive and customised <strong>safety</strong> services all from a single source.
Bregenz, 5th May 2011 – Vorarlberg-based <strong>Rhomberg</strong> Group launched a <strong>new</strong> <strong>company</strong> in April 2011.
RK safetec GmbH designs, installs and operates temporary infrastructure and <strong>safety</strong> and security
systems <strong>for</strong> tunnel and other major construction sites, mining and heavy industry. For several years
now, <strong>Rhomberg</strong> has provided solutions <strong>for</strong> railway construction projects, working in an expert
partnership with K.E.M Montage GmbH. The <strong>company</strong> demonstrated its expertise on projects such as
the northern pilot tunnel <strong>for</strong> the Brenner Base Tunnel, where it was responsible <strong>for</strong> the <strong>safety</strong> system,
and the Brenner northern approach line, where the site power supply and lighting also fell under its
remit.
Increasing demand from the market has prompted both partners to set up a joint <strong>company</strong> specifically
to pool their know-how and offer their services not just to the railway industry, but to all types of major
construction sites. Currently RK safetec concentrates on its core home markets in Austria, Germany
and Switzerland. The medium-term intention is to acquire projects all over the world.
Everything from a single source
Personnel localisation, telecommunications, equipment and material management to prevent loss,
component labelling <strong>for</strong> optimum site logistics, entry and exit systems, tunnel air supplies – the
requirements vary widely from project to project and are usually covered by specialist subcontractors.
"RK safetec can provide all <strong>safety</strong> and security services from its own resources," explains Business
Unit Manager Stephan Ottersbach, "And perfectly tailored to the particular requirements of each
project."
One of the products RK safetec installs is the ZOKA monitoring and communications system. This
comprehensive system, which localises personnel, vehicles, components and equipment, as well as
covering communication and alarm systems – <strong>for</strong> example in the event of deteriorating air quality – was
specially designed to ensure the safe and efficient operation of major construction sites. RK safetec
uses open, modular solutions <strong>for</strong> ease of connection to external systems. "All the positional and works
in<strong>for</strong>mation is channelled into the control centre," says Ottersbach. There, the monitoring team always
has a good view of the whole site and can locate operatives and equipment on-screen, and sound the
alarm to alert them to impending danger in good time .
