1. Summary<br />

1.1 The principal bridge inspection of this Bandarbon Bridge was carried out by<br />

SARM – DUL Consortium on the 14 th December 2004.<br />

1.2 This was constructed in 1987.<br />

1.3 The structure is in fair condition but there is some rehabilitation work for<br />

sidewalk.<br />

2. General Information<br />

2.1 The bridge is located at chainage 60.543 Km of Rangamati-Bandarbon (R-161).<br />

This is a 166.6m long pre-stressed concrete girder bridge having 5 spans. Length<br />

of individual spans are 18.0m, 3nos. @ 42.6m and 18.0m. The width and carriage<br />

way of the bridge is respectively 9.9m and 7.4m.<br />

3. Results of inspection<br />

3.1 Foundation<br />

The foundations are supported on RCC piles. Foundation of abutments are buried<br />

and could not be visually inspected. The well foundation for the piers is also<br />

buried, so it was not possible to comment on their condition. However, there is no<br />

sign of tilting or settlement of piers.<br />

3.2 Abutment<br />

Both abutments are RCC solid type and condition is good.<br />

3.3 Pier<br />

Piers are RCC column type and in good condition.<br />

3.4 Wing Walls<br />

All the wing walls are of RCC solid. These are fixed with abutments and have<br />

weep holes. They are in good condition.<br />

3.5 Bearings<br />

Bearings are neoprene bearing pads and are in good condition.<br />

3.6 Pre-stressed Concrete Girder<br />

Each Span of this bridge contains 5 nos. P.C. girders. All are in good condition.<br />

3.7 Railing<br />

The Railing is the combination of RCC Post and Rail.<br />

The overall condition of the railing is good. It has 1.0m. wide foot path at both<br />

sides.<br />

3.8 Deck Slab<br />

The condition of RCC deck slab is good.<br />

3.9 Wearing Course<br />

The wearing course is of bituminous type and is in good condition.<br />

3.10 Expansion Joint<br />

The expansion joints are in good condition<br />

3.11 Approach Protection and Drainage<br />

The bridge has no abutment approach protection and drainage facility. The bridge<br />

has drainage facility. There is minor settlement in road approach.<br />

3.12 Navigability<br />

It is navigable all the time. Most of the river traffics are different types of boats.<br />

Their heights are mostly 1.0 to 3.0m.<br />

3.13 Recommendation<br />

The following recommendations need to be followed.<br />

8.0sqm road approaches need to repair. 10.0m side walk need to repair.<br />
