Potential fieldwork locations<br />
Many of the <strong>in</strong>dividual attractions and sites are suitable for school visits <strong>in</strong> their own right. However,<br />
a geographical perspective comes through consider<strong>in</strong>g different aspects of urban <strong>regeneration</strong>,<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the processes of plann<strong>in</strong>g and redevelop<strong>in</strong>g former <strong>in</strong>dustrial sites and heritage tourism.<br />
The follow<strong>in</strong>g list <strong>in</strong>dicates the range of attractions <strong>in</strong> and around the <strong>Bristol</strong> <strong>Harbourside</strong> area.<br />
Heritage attractions<br />
• Brunel’s SS Great Brita<strong>in</strong>, the world’s first steam powered passenger l<strong>in</strong>er, which is be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

• The replica of the Matthew <strong>in</strong> which John Cabot sailed to Newfoundland lies next to it.<br />
• Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge spans the Gorge above the River Avon and has a<br />

New facilities and attractions<br />
• At-<strong>Bristol</strong>, a £97 million project cover<strong>in</strong>g science, nature and the arts designed to <strong>in</strong>terest<br />
and <strong>in</strong>spire students to look at the world around. There are three ma<strong>in</strong> attractions:<br />

• The Watershed, Brita<strong>in</strong>'s first media centre, provides a range of exhibitions, screen<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

• The Arnolf<strong>in</strong>i, an <strong>in</strong>ternational centre for contemporary arts present<strong>in</strong>g new and<br />

• The Architecture Centre, founded by the <strong>Bristol</strong> Centre for the Advancement of<br />
Architecture (BCAA), helps the public engage with the explore all aspects of the built<br />
environment. The Centre's programme <strong>in</strong>cludes exhibitions, guided tours, visits,<br />
discussions, workshops and lectures. They are work with schools and colleges on ways<br />

• The Create Centre is a unique environment centre which is the home of the City Council's<br />
Susta<strong>in</strong>able Development Unit and also has a Recycl<strong>in</strong>g Exhibition which is a hands on<br />
journey through waste and recycl<strong>in</strong>g and The Ecohome demonstrat<strong>in</strong>g ideas and<br />
<strong>in</strong>formation on eco-friendly construction and liv<strong>in</strong>g. Both are available to schools and<br />

• Pero's Bridge is a pedestrian bridge opened <strong>in</strong> 1999 spann<strong>in</strong>g St August<strong>in</strong>e's Reach and<br />

• A series of new public squares and open spaces, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the Millennium Square, with<br />
cafés, bars, promenades and public artworks l<strong>in</strong>k the new <strong>Harbourside</strong> developments to<br />
the city centre.<br />
Museums<br />
• <strong>Bristol</strong> Industrial Museum tells the story of <strong>Bristol</strong>’s varied <strong>in</strong>dustrial past with exhibitions<br />
