1 Safety information

1. Read the operating manual carefully and completely before starting up the unit.

2. Make sure the mains connection has the correct voltage and is grounded before starting up the

unit.

3. Repairs may only be performed by trained Nagel vendors and service engineers.

4. Disconnect the unit's power cable from the mains before repairs.

5. Install cables so that they do not represent a tripping hazard.

6. Use only original Nagel spare parts.

7. Install the unit in a dry room on a level surface.

8. Lock the castors once the unit is in place.

9. Safety covers that prevent operators from reaching into the machine must always be in place.

10. Safety devices may not be removed or bypassed.

11. Be sure to use the same rating when replacing fuses.

12. Keep long hair away from rotating shafts and rollers.

13. Guide covers during closing to prevent them falling shut.

14. Do not open the cover during operation, as this may cause a paper jam.

15. Connect the various units using the screws provided so that the units cannot be separated

without tools.

16. Switch off the main switch before reaching into the machine.

2 Intended use and possible combinations

The collection tray is a link between the Robo-Feeder or S8 feeder and the Foldnak Compact,

Foldnak 8 or Foldnak 40 bookletmakers.

Sets of up to 25 sheets (80 gsm) that are separated by the collators are collected, jogged and fed

to the Foldnak as complete sets.

A complete, unseparated set of up to 8 sheets from the S8 can also be fed to the Foldnak via the

collection tray.

The collection tray cannot be combined with an S8 two- or three-tower system!

The collection tray can also be used together with an older Foldnak from serial number 00114542

onwards. In this case, the Foldnak must be equipped with an online box 2413036.

Units with serial numbers between 97000000 and 00114542 require retrofit kit 2955735 in addition.

Control box 2656020 is required if the collection tray is to be operated with a Foldnak 8 /

Foldnak 40 or a Foldnak Compact 2655000 without membrane keyboard.

The control box is not needed to operate the collection tray with a Foldnak Compact 2655010 with

membrane keyboard. The standard online box is sufficient for all versions of the Foldnak Compact.

3 Operating the collection tray

The collection tray is controlled via the membrane keyboard of the control box or of the Foldnak

Compact. The following describes the operation via the control box. The control via the Foldnak

Compact is basically the same; only the menu structure is different - see the user manual of the

Foldnak Compact.

When the control box is switched on, the display briefly shows the software version (XXX stands

for the version number).

Once the unit is powered up, the operating mode and counter reading are displayed in the upper

line.

Press the Enter key to open the main menu.

The upper line always shows the superordinate menu item, the lower line the subordinate menu

item.

The table below shows an overview of the menu structure.

Use the Up / Down keys to navigate between submenu items.

Use the Back key to return to the next higher menu level.

This corresponds to the next column on the left in the table.

The control system "remembers" the last path through the menu to make repeat adjustments

easier. Press the Enter key several times to return to the previously displayed submenu.

5 Setting the operating mode

Select submenu 1 Operating mode and press the Enter key.

In this window, the selected operating mode is checkmarked.

Select the collator connected to the collection tray with the Up / Down keys and press the Enter

key.

Press the Back key three times to return to the display window below. The operating mode is

shown on the upper left.

PLEASE NOTE!

The control system of the collection tray must be "told" during installation with which Foldnak it is

used!

To do this, select menu item 21e More in the Service menu (the password for the service functions

is 1000) and press the Enter key.

"Fk Compact" must be checkmarked if a Foldnak Compact 2655000 without membrane

keyboard is installed; in all other cases, there must be no checkmark!

Assignment of function keys

The function keys F1, F2 and F3 are assigned the following functions at the time of delivery:

F1 = Clear Foldnak with stapling

F2 = Clear collection tray (the set is pushed into the Foldnak and processed)

F3 = Suction power

A function key can be assigned any function from the menu tree. Select the desired submenu item

with the control keys, then keep the appropriate function key pressed for more than three seconds.

The display shows the message "Function key saved".

The labelling of the function keys may be changed by trained personnel.

6 Setting the sheet size

Select submenu 5c Teach in.

Please note! The adjustable side stop moves to the jogging position.

Raise the sheet retainers.

This window shows the read-out position of the transport finger as sheet length in millimetres

(distance between transport finger and rear cross stop).

Push the transport finger toward the Foldnak.

Insert a sheet of paper of the same size as the sets to be processed.

Loosen the wing screw behind the handwheel and adjust the lateral guides to the sheet width. Do

not move the guides too close together to avoid jamming the set! You must be able to move the set

easily in the direction of paper travel.

Tighten the wing screw to lock the stops in this position.

Place the sheet against the rear cross stop and move the transport finger to the right until it just

touches the lead edge of the sheet.

The display now shows the "taught" value.

Press the Enter key until the display shows the message "Setting saved!!!"

In this window, you can enter the numerical value of the sheet length in millimetres.

Use the Back and Enter keys to select a digit (the selected digit is underlined). Change the numerical

value of the selected digit with the Up / Down keys.

Once the last digit has been selected, the input value is saved and the transport finger moves to

the start position. Another push of the Enter key takes you back to the submenu; if necessary, you

can correct the value as described above. Adjust the lateral guides as described above.

Make sure the set sheet length matches the actual sheet length, otherwise the set may be

jammed!

7 Adjusting the sheet retainers

Once you have loosened the clamping screw, the sheet retainers can be moved on the bars.

The right-hand sheet retainer should be adjusted so that its lower bend is positioned approx. 1-2

cm to the right of the transport finger (home position).

Adjust the left-hand sheet retainer so that the set does not become caught on the rolls of the lateral

guides when it is pushed out. If extra-long sheet sizes are processed, the left-hand sheet retainer

can be removed altogether.

Adjust the sheet retainer rolls to a distance from the table that corresponds to twice the thickness

of the set (e.g. place a booklet underneath the rolls). The fastening screws should be so tight that

the rolls cannot go out of adjustment on their own.

8 Adjusting the pressing roller in the Foldnak

The pressing roller in the Foldnak must be adjusted so that it rests on the part of the online box

strap that is supported by a counter-roller on the other side.

When the online box is adjusted to a different sheet size, this roller must be moved accordingly; it

must always be directly opposite the support roller.

9 Adjusting the suction power

The sheets fed into the unit are supported on an air cushion and descend slowly as the air escapes.

There are two fans in the rear cross stop. These fans suck off the air and accelerate the descent of

the sheets.

Select submenu 5a Suction power.

In this window, you can change the suction power of the fans. The power can be set in steps

between 0 (no suction) and 10 (maximum suction). If a value greater than 10 is entered, only the

maximum value of 10 is saved.

The suction power must be optimised according to the weight and size of the sheets to be processed.

If the suction is set too high, a sheet may be pulled against the cross stop and cover the air slots.

The following sheets are supported on the air cushion that is no longer sucked off and cause a

paper jam.

The arriving sheet should not descend until its lead edge has almost reached the transport finger.

Paper with static charges in particular may turn over if the suction is too strong – it may touch the

lower sheets of the set too soon and stick to them.

If the suction is too low, the sheet descends too slowly and the following sheet can become caught

at its tail edge.

10 Error messages

In the event of a malfunction, the following messages are displayed. Once the malfunction has

been eliminated, every error message must be acknowledged with the Back key.

11 Installation of the collection tray

PLEASE NOTE!

For a joint operation with the collection tray, the door at the Robo-Feeder or at the S8 must

be replaced:

2656170 door RF - collection tray

2656171 door S8 - collection tray

The sheet deflector must also be changed!

Installing the 2761165 sheet deflector for the collection tray:

Take off the cover of the Robo-Feeder / S8, dismount the transfer plate and the deflector adjustment

motor (if installed), unscrew the Allen screw (see long thin arrow) and take off the deflector.

If an ultrasonic sensor (order no. 2761006) for the external double sheet detector is installed, it

is mounted to the new deflector.

Mount the new deflector in the reverse order.

Remove the original door. Do not mount the new door yet, see page 14.

Replace the two inner fillister head screws at the base of the Robo-Feeder / S8 with two DIN 912

M6x25 Allen screws. Allow the screws to project by approx. 6 mm!

Mounting the support frame to the collection tray

Loosen the two Allen screws at the underside of the collection tray and use them to fasten the

support.

Fitting the collection tray

Fit the keyhole-shaped recesses of the collection tray onto the Allen screws at the Robo-Feeder /

S8 base. Level the collection tray using the adjusting feet. Mount the new door at the Robo-Feeder

/ S8.

2656171 door S8 - collection tray.

Connecting the Foldnak to the support frame

Connect the Foldnak to the support frame with the angle iron (2760509 connection S8 / Fk) and

secure the connection with the screws provided. The screws must be only hand-tight!

Plugging the cable into the collection tray

Secure the cable using the screws at the plug.

Mounting the control box to the collection tray

Unscrew the 4 Allen screws at the collection tray by approx. 5 mm.

Fit the control box at the keyholes and tighten the screws.

Fitting the panels

PLEASE NOTE!

The panels can only be fitted to the new Robo-Feeder / S8 support (dark grey)!

Screw the DIN 912 M6x25 Allen screws and rubber bushings into the support frame and into the

Robo-Feeder / S8 support.

The panels are symmetrical; if no control box is installed

mount the panel with the recess pointing down.

Installing the pressing roller and infeed plate in the Foldnak

For a joint operation with the collection tray, the short infeed plate at the Foldnak must be replaced

with the longer 2955989 infeed plate Fk-8. The infeed roller for the online box is replaced by the

2656177 pressing roller.

The pressing roller must be adjusted so that it rests on the part of the online box strap that is

supported by a counter-roller on the other side.

When the online box is adjusted to a different sheet size, this roller must be moved accordingly; it

must always be directly opposite the support roller.
