RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research interests include evaluating hazardous proximity issues between ground workers and heavy
equipment on outdoor construction sites at grade and corresponding candidate technologies thought to be
capable of providing workers another layer of protection. Technologies capable of providing alerts in
real-time to construction equipment operators and/or ground workers during hazardous proximity
situations and logging “near miss” events are evaluated for their reliability and effectiveness in simulated
and actual construction environments.
Research deliverables including risk management analysis results, safety site-layout designs, and
knowledge generated from collected “near miss” information
Enhanced personnel planning for safety to minimize exposure to hazardous proximity situations
Identify existing barriers for technology implementation on construction sites
Improvements in education and safety training for workers and equipment operators through
hazard visualization in Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Potential to save human resources by increasing awareness of hazardous proximity situations
Cross-sectional implementation in several industries and disciplines (i.e. steel manufacturing)
