number of states, which is determined by the number of grades. The implementations of<br />

these models are the same. This section describes the implementation of the Markov<br />

Promotion Model.<br />

Inputs<br />

The Markov Promotion Model requires three types of inputs: time definitions,<br />

promotion data, and an initial force structure data. Figure C.1 shows the inputs required for<br />

the Markov Promotion Model for officers.<br />
